4. I believe in supernaturual phenomena |
|
I believe in God from the Christian point of view. There may also be other supernatural beings like angels, ghosts, or other spirits. I have seen miracles that have lead me to believe that God is active in this world. I also had a number of Wiccan friends who claimed to perform magic (or is it magik) and say that they are doing nothing more than I do when I pray. As far as completely reliable magic, if I say these words or do this, something magical will happen, I don't believe that it works that way. Supposedly miracles have been proven by quantum phyisics but I don't understand that well enough. I guess if magic were predictable and reliable, it wouldn't be magic.

"Any sufficiently advanced magic is indistinguishable from technology."
I meet your Clarke and raise you one Wilson :)
Actually, Doreen Valiente (and others) have defined "magick" as "changing Reality through an act of Will and Imagination". A suitably broad definition I think - it could mean something as basic as picking up litter or teaching a child to read or protesting Bushco or developing a new technology. A lot of pagan groups include stuff like that within their definitions of magick. As well they should.

8. I believe that magick is likely possible |

I think it's a manipulation of energy, whether localized or on the macro level, that's tied to the performance of ritual and ceremony. As far as external beings, I'm not certain if they're independent or manifestations of our will. Magick isn't the hocus pocus of Harry Potter or fantasy fiction, rather the deliberate execution of ritual to defy what we understand of the mechanical world. Pure reason requires nearly as much faith as religion, or as someone said, religion makes man a fool while reason drives him mad. Edit: I'm into Gnosticism and OTO-Aleister Crowley as far as the practice of magick goes. I think that some Christians get angry because these beliefs challenge their perceived monopoly on the spritual aspect of life.

His "evil" persona sure has scared a lot of people off, but the techniques work, damn it.

I'm Wiccan. Depends what you mean by "magic" though -- not fireballs and Harry Potter type stuff.

13. I believe in it from a new age/new thought |
|
belief system. I hesitate using the words "new age" but I'm not into Wicca (I'm definitely not against it, I just new gravitated towards it)and I don't adhere to the Chritian belief system AT ALL! However, I belive in a higher power/universal intelligence that is loving and all knowing. I believe that spirits exist all around us as I've seen things with my very eyes that prove to me there's something happening on the other side and they can make themselves know to us here if we're open to it.
