Hope renewed for the world's women (or men--whatev')--Clooney's back on the market
Good News, Ladies: George Clooney Is Single Again

Did we call it, or did we call it?

Just a couple weeks after Elisabetta Canalis publicly vowed that she'd be a bride someday (a big no-no when you're dating the world's most notoriously commitment-shy bachelor) comes word that she and George Clooney have indeed called it quits.

For the record, y'all can have him. I've never understood the attraction, myself...

2. Eh, technically not too old for me
He's 50, right? I'm 45. I should be drooling. But there's just something about the dude that doesn't tickle my fancy. Not Pitt either. Gawrsh, I either have ridiculously high standards, or very strange tastes. Most likely the latter. ;)

3. Aaaah, me loves George Clooney
Alas, I am married. I have a feeling that Clooney, on the other hand, is smart enough to avoid marriage.

17. Yes, only because he was married once, too.
For four years back in the 80s. I guess that was enough for him.

4. I know he's a good liberal, but really, what a dickhead
Did he freak because she mentioned she'd like to be married someday?

Was the relationship falling apart and she made that comment about marriage because she was grasping?

So he's the one who gets to set the parameters of the relationship, and she gets no say.

I don't think he's that handsome, either.

What a scaredy little turd he is.

6. I, of course, am speaking out of my fanny...
However, I think Mr. Clooney is vehemently against having children. While he has the money and looks to snag any young thing he wants, I think he parts ways with them when they finally realize he's not going change his mind and give them babies. I don't think he's opposed to a life-long relationship. I think he just doesn't want kids.

8. He has said, and most vehemently,
NO marriage again ever, and NO kids. He's quite adamant. Then again, so was Warren Beatty, so there's that. Depends on how stubborn he is, really.

7. I'd bet the relationship was on its last legs
and that was a final slam at him.

BTW, I don't usually follow Clooney news, but I just wrote a blog post about this whole phenomenon of women being taught they should want to "tame the playboy" to get an ideal mate (when really they are just dickheads and shouldn't be touched with a bargepole), so I had to get up to speed. :D

13. I don't get it.
Why are you calling him a dickhead? He has already been married once, and it didn't work out.

I happen to be married, and it has been a disaster. I have lost everything. Should I ever divorce, I know that I will not remarry. Clooney has a lot more to lose than I do. Who can blame him for avoiding marriage?

19. I"m not calling him a dickhead because he doesn't want to get married -
that's fine, no big deal. It isn't for everyone (and you usually don't find that out until you're in one).

He just seems really skittish. *Every* time one of the women he dates says she'd like a long term partner, he skeeves out and runs fast as his little legs will take him in the other direction.

20. Of course she has a say
if getting married is a deal breaker for her she can leave to pursue another relationship. Knowing that he doesn't want to get married doesn't make him a dick head and he shouldn't have to bow to her every wish either. They just didn't want the same things out of a relationship so they parted ways. Why does one party have to be the villain?

No, I don't want to get married either, I totally applaud him there. But I wouldn't mind being his friend-with-benefits.... ;)

16. I'm one who should have never married
I came to the very painful realization that marriage isn't for everybody. I have to intention of ever remarrying again. Even if it means dying homeless under a bridge.

Of course I will welcome a friendship, but marriage is way over rated. I think a very few are married happily and I'm totally with their marriages. It would be nice if all marriages were like that, but they aren't.

21. I kinda like the guy
He seems to have a social conscience, and that is attractive to me, plus he's not a pretty boy IMO. He's got some wrinkles and gray hair, but seems to be able to tell a good story (IIRC from The Daily Show a long while back). Those qualities stand for sumpthin with me.

I don't blame him, not wanting to re-marry. But if the woman has been led along some garden path with hopes of it being permanent, and he perpetuated that thought (which is a fact none of us is privy to, nor should we be), he's a sleaze.

That being said, no one will ever know what transpired between the two of them. But better to have a split before a life-time commitment, than after.
