Stranger at the Gas Station |
|
I went to gas up my wife's car a little while ago and shared a duplex pump with a guy gassing up a really nice looking new pickup truck. His truck has a "I Support Our Troops" sticker on it. I'd never met him before.
Anyway I hit the pump and the price came up in the window: 1.869 for regular unleaded. I swore quite loudly. The man on the other side said something like "isn't it strange that a $.04 increase in the Wisconsin gas tax comes out to $.08 at the pump?" I told him I knew we were being "played" and I hated it.
He got really riled up and asked me if I had heard what Cheney had to say. He said that Cheney had an article in last month's Petroleum Institute magazine in which Cheney said that we have to get gas prices up over $2.00 per gallon so that companies could "make a reasonable return on their investment". I told him I thought this whole administration was so crooked they had to screw their socks on in the morning and he told me in return that he's a republican and can't vote for Dubya again. He said he hoped McCain would run against Bush and was disappointed that he didn't. He said he didn't like Kerry, but "enough is enough"
Unbelieveable.
Two years ago that kind of conversation wouldn't have taken place. The good news is that moderate republicans are beginning to see through this administration's motivations and are almost as angry as we are.
Just thought I'd pass this story along.

2. I would dearly like to have a direct web source |

for that statement by Cheney. But I couldn't locate any with Google. Can anyone here help?

3. Thanks. That balances a conversation I had today |
|
with a fellow Democrat. I asked her, "what do you think, are we going to elect a new president?" She didn't even hesitate. "No."
So thanks a bunch, ewagner. :hi:

4. We're all having this conversation |
|
I think everyone here has had a conversation like this. And that soldier on the CBS News last night who's a lifelong Republican who's going to work for Kerry.

6. Man, I WISH gas was $1.86! |
|
Where I live I consider myself lucky if I find regular unleaded for $1.99!
Good story to hear, though!

Here in San Diego, ON BASE (no California taxes, sold at cost) it's $2.07
Never mind off base, I can't afford to pay full price.

that this guy was a "jobber". IOW somebody who fixes gas pumps and installs tanks and that sort of thing. It looked like he had some kind of large-ass tools and pipe benders in the bed of his truck.

daughter-in-law who works for a rabid repug is having doubts about voting for Bush, and my Dad and brother who both voted for Bush are saying they will not do it again. Mainly it's Iraq, but the glaring mental deficits are a big factor. I think they are embarassed every time he speaks. They feel ripped off and let down. I'm thrilled and try very hard not to say I told you so.

Hubby and I went down to visit and had lunch with a bunch (20 or so) farmers from Eastern Washington. All have been republicans all their lives (and most served in the military mostly Korea) and to a man they all said they were digusted with Bush and wouldn't even think about voting for him again. Several said they may not be able to bring themselves to vote for a (at that time unnamed) democrat so they would probably just stay home. They expressed shame and outrage at the lies he has told and what he has done in Iraq "American's don't start wars.. we finish them" was the general consenus. So keep your hearts light and your resolve strong my friends!
edit for spelling
