Seems like Denverites know what they like - more Pot Shops then Starbucks
http://www.rawstory.com/rawreplay/2011/07/denver-has-more-pot-shops-than-starbucks-report/

In Denver, pot shops now outnumber Starbucks

In Denver, where personal possession of small quantities of marijuana is legal for adults and medical marijuana is welcomed by local authorities, more pot shops have sprung up than Starbucks, according to a published report this week.

There’s so much talk about pot in Colorado’s largest city that a local newspaper has even hired an official marijuana critic to help the city’s patients cut through the haze of all the new commercial activity.

Known as William Breathes, the writer keeps his identity secret to dodge authorities and keep away from special treatment at the shops. He writes for the alt-weekly Denver Westworld, and his unique job as a professional pot critic earned him a bit of coverage from News Corp.’s The Daily earlier this week

1. That's how we roll in Colorado.
These days, the Mile High City isn't all about elevation. :P

2. Interesting, but I'm confused. How do they avoid what's happening in WA and CA?
From what I've read, both states are having problems on this issue. I think some people have been arrested in CA for running the shops.

The governor of WA state had to veto implementation of the voter initiative on medical marijuana shops. While the state was setting up regulations for the shops, the DOJ threatened state employees who went to the shops would be arrested for doing their jobs.

The push to stop it seemed be coming directly from D.C. There may have been more recent news about these, but that's the last I heard. How can Colorado allow this?

BTW, I don't partake and don't know anyone who does. But I don't favor prohibition when oversight would suffice for public safety.

3. It's been a work in progress...
I don't know much about the Federal authorities, but the State set the guidelines and the locals work within it. There has been several bumps in the road, but it seems to be smoothing out.

The problem I've ran into, is all the crime being committed at the shops and grows. With the legalization initiative poised for the 2012 ballot, it's just started.

4. Thanks, but check what happened here. That's why I'm so amazed at this story--
Obama admin. threatens to prosecute state employees who license medical marijuana dispensaries

BTW, what crimes are happening around shops and growers in CO? Just curious, I don't know what goes on in situations like that.

6. i heard about those Federal threats...
not sure how it's going to pan out.

We've had alot of break ins and people robbing customers for there stuff.

The grows have been hit several times, and those are the ones we just know about. Another guy try to start a dispensary but started growing before he was licensed.

and a suspected homicide, but that turned out to be natural causes.
