Did I miss soemthing? Is most Tequila no longer 100% Blue Agave anymore?
About 5-10 years ago - somewheres in there - I went all in to tequila. Loved me some Chinaco Anejo, or Don Julio. Good stuff.

Then I got turned onto Craft Beer and drank that for a few years. Got sick of it, took a break, and now I'm back into Tequila.

HOWEVER, I remember when I last drank it, most of it (and even cheaper brands like Heradura and Tres Generaciones) used 100% Blue Agave.

Now, it just reads 100% Agave.

Did something happen? Did Tequila go on the cheap or something?

1. Herradura is NOT a 'cheaper' brand
It's one of the best, just not overly promoted like Don Patron

SO THERE!!!

2. OK well maybe not "cheaper" but not up there with Don Julio or Chinaco or
And again, Heradura comes in two types - the cheaper version

and the expensive version

8. Used to be a Mexico only brand
There are a bunch of Tequilas you will find in the US only, even though they are made in Mexico

There are also a bunch of Tequilas you fill find in Mexico only

Antiguo is their lower end brand. The Reposado is pretty good and compares with Cazadores. Lately though, when you go to a tequila bar around here and order Heradura, unless you specify the good stuff, you get Antiguo.

11. Antiguo Blanco?
I have here my Spanish-English Phrasebook...it says "antiguo blanco" means "carburetor cleaner."

7. Tres Generaciones Anejo is my favorite.
Love the hint of Bourbon as it rolls across my tongue.

9. Some of that stuff ain't rightly liquor...
I remember some stuff called "Two Fingers" that could well be gasoline base stock, and some other stuff (came with a red sombrero cap) that reminded me of paintbrush cleaner.
I would suspect that makers of mass market "Ta-Kill-Ya" consider "100% Agave" a flexible legal concept.....
