FOR REAL! Woman breastfeeds fussy baby at Olive Garden in Oklahoma City!!
Edited on Fri Jul-08-11 07:32 PM by YellowRubberDuckie
My friend was telling me about it today. They were there a couple of days ago, this baby got fussy, and she just whipped her boob out and it latched on. NO TOWEL, NO COVER! I am not kidding. This is not a joke. This is not satire. IT REALLY HAPPENED! I thought it was just something you guys talked about like drunks who see the purple elephants. THIS REALLY HAPPENED! OMG!

1. Settle down, Sweetie. They're standard issue.
Yeah, immodest and a distraction, but honest, once you've had a pair for a few years you're just not that like OMG and all about it.

But that garlic bread, now THAT'S tasty.

2. The tone of my post is fake outrage and shock...
...but it really did happen. I've never seen a woman whip a boob out in public. LOL

3. Then it's time you did see!
I think the more that sort of stuff happens, the more we'll get used to it.

And that is a good thing!

:hi: My dear YellowRubberDuckie!

6. Did the baby shut up?
If it did, that mom is a hero. There's few things I hate more than listening to some screaming brat when I'm trying to eat... or any other time, for that matter.

9. Call me a prude, call me whatever you like . . .
But when did "modesty" become an alien concept? What would have been wrong with at least using some sort of cover in a public place?

Flame away.

11. I can agree with that.
I'm all for breastfeeding, and as far as public places go, babies just don't care about what people think when they're hungry! But she could have tried to cover up a bit.

12. Kidding aside I do agree with you.
It's courtesy to adhere to cultural norms when not to do so would make people uncomfortable. I don't always think that and wouldn't take a pitchfork to the woman but it would be considerate of her to throw a blanket over herself.

I must admit though that once when my youngest was YOWLING on a plane I decided to feed him in an effort to quiet him. I did have a blanket and used it, but two old ladies across the aisle from me went to great lengths to lean over and scowl and tsk at me, at which time I popped him audibly off and, boob in the breeze, held him out to them saying "YOU do it, then!"

It was very satisfying.

14. That is AWESOME!
Those old biddies probably did the same thing, only there probably weren't planes when they had their babies. They probably would have though. I would have given you a medal. Babies crying on a plane suck.

20. Unless the baby had a transparent head, the boob was covered.
You try eating with a blanket over your head.

Edited on Sat Jul-09-11 02:09 PM by Demonaut
ate there recently...it sucked, their salads are preprocessed, unbagged and served, and they support RW causes

on edit, parents made the choice, would not have gone otherwise

15. It has always been bagged salad.

I worked there for a while. They are highly conscientious about their cleanliness and attention to health codes. I don't care who they give to as long as they have good food. And it varies from store to store.
Do you smoke? If you smoke YOU are giving to right wing causes yourself. Half of DU bitches about this place and that place giving to this RW cause. But they sure smoke it up. It is the same goddamned thing and they spend more money on that shit than I do eating at OG once in a couple of months.

18. I have to admit that this would make me uncomfortable, but
I fight that feeling because I know it is just from being raised in an uptight Puritan culture. I realize that this is natural, and it is the best thing any mother can feed the baby. But I also know that pulling a boob out in public without any modesty is a bit unnerving. I hate that I am offended by it, or maybe I hate that I was raised to be offended by it.

Or...were we just supposed to be offended that it happened at Olive Garden???

On the other side, if it shut a crying baby up while I was eating, I would overlook anything else.
