UPDATE on a SEATTLE: missing person report... [APR-03-2004]

She is still missing.

Just wanted to update you also on the average stats for missing persons:

120,000 people go missing every year (with way less than 50% under the age of 16) and only 2% ever go missing more than 30 days. The police use this stat and the constitutional right to privacy as their "reluctant" reasons NOT to vigorously investigate adult missing person cases and mix in budgetary problems and that the recent Wisconsin student who disappeared is now a known hoax and the media plays along by only "pushing" sensational over informative.


And, worse of all is the frustratingly horrifyingly uphill battle the parents or a loved one has to go through when it's a legitimate missing...

I know many of you are not from the Seattle area, but ANY suggestions would be helpful. Thank you for any help at all

if my boys were missing I believe I would go crazy...I know my wife would.
I used to have the thoughts of them getting hurt and I couldn't seem to get away from them.
My doc told me it was a natural part of becoming a parent.
I am hoping she is O.K.
God, now I'm getting the thoughts again.
My son is going to the N.J. aquarium today...
We went over the safety rules last night and this morning.

for all your kind thoughts for Emillie and especially all the :kick:s and most especially all those who teach their kids about the dangers that are out there. Many parents don't realize how widespread and horrifyingly frustrating this is until their child disappears.

Hmmm... the stats I looked at yesterday (from 1999) showed that 58K children (17 or under) had been abducted in that year alone.

This included both stereotypical kidnappings and the non-familial ... can't remember the technical term but it included brief abductions usually for the purpose of sexual assault.

and what was the total missing persons "reported" for the whole year including those over 16. I'll bet you those under 16 (not including 16 year olds) was way under 50% of 120,000 which is a rounded down number. This means more 16 and over are reported missing every year,

the total estimation of missing children for 1999 was 1.3 million plus, while the actual amount reported to the police is 790 thousand plus for the purpose of locating them.

My stats are a compilation of various missing person organizations using conservative figures of those missing for more than 24 hours and not parental abductions.

The number is much higher than 120,000 (children and adults missing for more than 24 hours and not parental abduction related - via LE definition) but if I were to use the actual figures no one here would believe me and nit pick about specific numbers and stats. Kind of like you're doing,

The 30th day is always the second saddest day for me.
