I live in Detroit. A week ago yesterday I bought some red leaf lettuce at Detroit's Eastern Market from a place called Rising Pheasant Farms (
http://risingpheasantfarms.blogspot.com) - two bunches, $2.
(Why is the name of the farm plural? Heck if I know, but let's just put a pin in that and move on...)
Today, I came across that lettuce -- which I was told had been grown about a mile from where I bought it and picked only an hour earlier. That lettuce had sat in my fridge for eight days because, well, I had forgotten all about it. I was bummed that I had not eaten it and was prepared to throw out a bag of gooey lettuce slime. But...
WOW... that lettuce was not only still good -- it was great. It was at least as fresh as anything I would have gotten had I decided to run out to my local Kroger. I blissfully made a nice salad for the family with it. Yummy!
