Regrets - I've Had a Few, But Then Again, Too Few to Mention |
|
Looking back . . . of course I did things my way. I really can't live anyone else's life, can I? But yes indeed, I do have regrets.
If I had known the New Left was going to disappear without a trace . . . I certainly would have majored in something practical.
If I had known my marriage was going to end up full of recriminations, I'd have kept looking . . .
I'd have gotten a job with a friggin' pension!
And that's just off the top of my head.

1. That I didn't find some secretarial job when I was young and retire after 30 years. |

That I didn't major in something else. That I didn't have a better education (I've got degrees, but my elementary and high school were both crappy.)
That I didn't stay with a job I left many years ago, where I had good benefits.
Regrets can eat you alive. A few years ago, they were eating me alive. Now I'm more at peace with the way things are.

2. But then, you did it all MY way or the Highway! |
|
I regret not having the stones to meet certain nice ladies and then not dumping certain meanies much earlier than I did.

3. There are no jobs anymore with a real pension. |
|
Somebody should write a song about that....

4. are there jobs with pensions anymore? |
|
I regret missed travel opportunities (and beer money? more like the amounts of money spent on beer maybe)
a few things during the raising of the kids are sort of regretted - stuff not done, mostly
regret not saying things sometimes
but not to the point of wallowing in it

5. I regret not traveling as I wanted, instead of staying to help family, friends and spouses. |
|
Who in the long run, could have done without me, despite their entreaties or emotional blackmail. Although I've traveled a lot in this country, it's always for practical reasons for family, but when I was younger, it was for causes. It has left me dissatisfied from not going where my heart wanted to go. That is my chief regret in life now.
