OK, I think I've found the band with the most misleading image of all time

They're Japanese. Looking like that you'd expect them to be a J-Pop girl group, right?

Actually they sound like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEf5bJ1FSss&NR=1

And yes, all of those vocals are really coming out of one of those girls (the one in the lower right). Any of their live videos confirms this.

1. I don't get it - am I missing something?
When I clicked on the link, I saw an image alternating with the photo above, and something that sounded quite a bit like my blender trying to chop up a big hunk of ice.

2. "And though she be but little, she is fierce" -- Midsummer Night's Dream III.2
What I learned from the video is that a sweet-looking Japanese girl can sound more terrifying than a whole battalion of kilt-clad bagpipe-wielding Scotsmen on the march

11. Actually I know plenty of people over 30 who are still into this stuff
There's been a huge trend in people "maturing" later, largely due to the internet and being able to keep in touch and changing economic realities and a fading of the view that everyone should settle down and start popping out kids around 25. Kind of related to people getting married later. I know that this band has been together since 2001 actually so they are probably close to it at least...

12. Sorry, my barely chained inner curmudgeon got out.
This band kind of reminded me of the Pistols but louder and with less finesse.

15. Punk's evolved from the Sex Pistols
You actually have bands playing this now with lots of complicated sound structures and finesse, like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olZ7iNOi9LQ

They just put out their newest record to critical acclaim, by The Onion of all places.

25. It's called grindcore
The first paragraph of the wikipedia article for most says all they need to know:

Grindcore is an extreme genre of music that started in the early- to mid-1980s. It draws inspiration from some of the most abrasive music genres – including death metal, industrial music, noise and the more extreme varieties of hardcore punk.

It's actually spread in popularity so much now that even Christian grindcore exists (no seriously. And yes, it does sound exactly like that.)
