2. Do you think maybe the owner got the cat conditioned to the water as a kitten?
My sister began using a blow dryer on her puppy & as it got older, the dog seemed to love it.

That cat was just in AWE of the water. He needed some toys!

4. There's a whole breed of cat (Turkish Van I think) that love to swim..

Not all cats hate water, just most..:)
When one of my cats was little she would sit on the edge of the bathtub while I was taking a bath and sometimes her tail would hang down and get wet and it didn't bother her (much). She's not quite as tolerant now..
Here it is:

7. Not only tigers, but lions, jaguars and ocelots all go in water
I visited the Sierra Endangered Cat Haven a year ago and they have a "hot tub" as they call it for the tigers (the water is cold, not hot). One of the tigers was sitting in it and suddenly jumped out with a huge splash while we were standing there. I only managed to get before-and-after pictures:

This white tiger seems to be a champ with the water:

Lions are known to have no problem with water:

Former Backstreet Boys member Kevin Richardson takes a dip with a friend:

Ocelots often live in jungles and are comfortable with water:

Jaguars are swimmers:

A mountain lion will swim if necessary

And the "fishing cat" of Asia even dives for fish!

10. Thank you. Delightful pictures.
Is it possible domestic cats don't like bathing because they may not feel in control?

12. I don't know, but
I've never had any success in trying to bathe any of my cats. I have given up trying. Mostly they clean themselves, and very well. When they get old or sick, often they will stop washing themselves and then they need to be taken to a groomer to be kept clean. But for the most part they are self-cleaning. Why they have such a loathing for being in water, I don't know. That would be a good subject to study.

14. And he's hungry. And he's looking for raw meat. And he has sharp teeth.
There are other pictures in that series where they show bits of raw meat they dropped in the water for him to get, but I chose not to post one of those.

9. I once had a kitten who would get in the shower with me...
...or into the tub for a soak. She stopped when she was full-grown (and long-haired). I think the rules are different for kittens.

And that's as it should be, I guess.

16. Oh--NOW somebody comes in an almost gets the thread locked!
The swimming cat thread lasted a pretty long time before it started to hit the skids! Originally I gave it MAYBE an hour or so...

17. That is adorable!
Looks like he's swatting at the ripples in the water, so cute and kitteny. Loved it, thanks!

18. a doctored video
you can tell by the way the water doesn't move around the kitty.
someone filmed a cat in an empty bathtub and then added the water.
