1. I like them all
but Order of the Phoenix has been my favorite. Umbridge and Bellatrix are such great villans...

3. I liked the movie overall
Edited on Tue Jul-12-11 12:48 PM by NewJeffCT
but, they changed quite a bit in the movie. I think after Chamber of Secrets, most of the movies downplayed how much Dobby helped Harry (he got the gillyweed in the book, but Neville did in the movie. I think he also found the Room of Requirement for the DA in Order of the Phoenix, but that was again Neville in the movie.)

8. Azkaban for me
I love all of them, but Prisoner of Azkaban has managed to remain my favorite so far... followed closely by Goblet of Fire.

12. Azkaban, by far the best stand alone film of the series.
There was was incredible leap forward in artistry with that film -- I remember watching the first 30 seconds and thinking, 'Well, this isn't Chris Columbus!' It was a mature film, with fantastic visuals and added depth via Thewlis and Oldman. Still the best "film" of them all.

9. I went with POA
with this installment the movies underwent a drastic change, from a cheery/happy style to a more dark/conspiracy aspect. With the first two movies, I never really cared for Voldermort, or thought he was much a villian, but with POA you got involvement from friends of HP's parents, and the "resistance" who fought Voldermort in the past.

10. Yep
Interestingly enough, POA is the only movie that Voldemort does not appear in. We get to meet Pettigrew, Lupin and of course, Sirius Black, but no Voldemort.

And as much as I love the golden-glow that surrounds the first two movies, where the wow-factor of the magical world is still the central focus, the story really gets moving with Prisoner.

11. One thing I disliked about Azkaban
they never told you who Mooney, Wormtail, Padfoot & Prongs were... plus, the movie made it more Harry-centric than the book.

18. I liked Order of the Phoenix the most. Least: Goblet of Fire..
and Half Blood Prince. Deathly Hallows Part 1 was good, but I thought most of the actors were a bit bored, like it was leading up to the big finale. I think I'll love Deathly Hallows Part 2 even with the liberties it takes with the book. The movies will never be like the books to me, but all in all a good series.

Deathly Hallows Part 2 has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes! Only 5 disliked it, and one of the 5 is the super contrarian Armond White. I have nothing against those 5, as critics don't mean much to me anyway. They are just giving an opinion. I think music critics are even worse - and as I'm a bigger music fan than movie fan, I completely ignore music critics.

26. Now that I've seen them all, my grades:
Edited on Fri Jul-15-11 10:15 PM by mvd
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: A-
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: B+
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: B
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: B-
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: A-
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince: B-
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1: B+
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2: A-

Saw DHP2 today, and that movie became my new favorite. I think the first 2 are very underrated. While they have more imperfections, I think they capture the personability of Rowling's writing the best.

19. I'll never like the movies as much as the books, I'm pretty sure.
But I voted for DH Pt 1 because it gave me such high hopes for the finale (which I'll be seeing at midnight tomorrow, squee!).

PoA is the best standalone movie in terms of filmmaking, no doubt, but I really thought some of the things left out (like explaining who Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot & Prongs were) were really unforgivable because some of them are important plot points to the overall arc. It's the first in the series were we really get a strong sense of how much things that happened in the previous generation are tied to what Harry's up against and where his support is coming from, and I think the filmmakers have a tendency to sell that short. The adult characters are important and very interesting too, really!

DH part 1 also had that total WTF moment with Harry & Hermione dancing to a Nick Cave song. Completely threw me out of the story, but in a way that made me cackle. Can't explain why.

20. PoA left a few other big things out as well
They never really explained how Sirius supposedly betrayed James & Lily Potter in regards to being the secret-keeper and the Fidelius Charm.

Also, how Sirius escaped from Azkaban was left out as well.

Plus, in the beginning of the movie, Harry was using his wand in his room at the Dursleys - it should have been illegal for him to do that.

22. I have only seen the first two.
I liked the first one, but thought the second one was too violent (wasn't there a monster in the basement or something?), so I never watched the others.

When I see the listings, I don't know which one is which, so I don't bother anymore.
