Hey Lounge, when you're on a diet, what's your favorite food or snack?
I'm getting sick of yogurt and popcorn, and that bacon truck thread is killing me! I need inspiration. I like savory over sweet but am pacing around like a caged panther right now.

1. Pretzels
No saturated fat.

Low calorie.

Salty and crunchy.

Actually, if you can stop snacking altogether, you will make great progress in weight loss.

9. I don't diet but try some hummus with raw veggies
like organic carrot and celery and red onion and red pepper.... You can make some simple hummus yourself by just purreeing a can of garbanzo beans, add lemon juice, maybe some chopped parsley, and a little garlic. If you also have some sesame seeds that is good to add, and optional also add either some olive oil or some raw coconut oil.

And a little salt. For variety there are many variations of this but plain hummus is a fine little snack or lunch food.

11. Peel some bananas, then freeze them...
After they are frozen blend them up or put them in a food processor..... *Optional* Add a little chocolate syrup while blending or on top like a sundae. Closest thing to ice cream you can get without actually eating ice cream.

12. It depends on the reason for the snack.
If I'm snacking because of hunger, I go for protein. If I have time to make it, a boiled egg is great. If it's a late night hunger attack a small piece of cheese will usually hold me.

If I'm snacking from boredom, the best thing is obviously to cut the habit, but if that's not gonna happen, kale chips are awesome. Spray or rub with some oil, sprinkle with seasonings (salt and pepper works fine, za'atar if you have it is even better). Bake til crispy, watch that it doesn't burn.

Other fun options - a head of romaine, split lengthwise, squirt lemon juice all over it and bake it.

Sometimes I snack because my stomach is restless - if you've ever had morning sickness, it's like a super mild case of that, the acid in my stomach triggers a hunger response. I keep candied ginger in the house, and a piece of that settles my stomach really well and curbs my appetite.

13. If you deprive yourself you just dwell on the food you crave
Remind your self that today you can have a small serving of anything, and tomorrow you can have another small serving of it if you still want that, or maybe a small serving of something else you really want.
"Don't eat today what you can put off until tomorrow ;)" That way you assuage your craving, and reassure yourself the food will be available tomorrow if you want another small serving to savor.

17. nuts, hummus w/veggies, string cheese,
cottage cheese with A-1 sauce ala Gerald Ford, baked tortilla chips with bean dip or salsa, roasted garbanzo beans with spices, baked onion rings (coated with liquid egg substitute and fiber one cereal "bread crumbs" baked in a 375 degree oven for 20-30 minutes.)

That last suggestion for the onion rings came from the Hungry Girl website. She has a lot of info about tasty lo-cal snacks you might want to check out. Good luck!

44. It is a red-leaf seaweed. I get it from Maine Seacoast Vegetables (harvested off Maine's coast)
seaveg.com - they have a lot of yummy stuff!

Dulse is great to snack on. It tastes salty, but is actually rather low in sodium. Nutrition information: http://www.seaveg.com/shop/index.php?main_page=page&id=15&chapter=5. You can find it at most health food stores and some grocery stores.

Dulse information and products: http://www.seaveg.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=20. I usually buy it by the pound. It freezes well and also has a really long shelf life. The dulse granules in a shaker are a great seasoning, with or without garlic. Unfortunately, they are currently out of stock on the applewood smoked dulse - damn is that stuff good (and I'm out).

24. I love a medium sweet potato mashed with a medium banana
it is delicious, healthy, sweet and filling. I have a definite sweet tooth, which this satisfies for under 300 calories. If i"m eating it as a meal, I add an ounce of walnuts or almonds, and it is still under 500 calories. For non sweet and filling, I boil lentils with lots of bay leaves and a little salt and pepper, and then add a bit of yogurt to make a simple soup.

26. i dont diet. the word alone guarentees failure. BUT, when staying off the junk, and eating
moderately, i will go for an apple for the crunch and the time taken to eat. i eat slowly. so any food is gonna take a lot of time. also, in the afternoon i grab a power bar. right now i am into fruit smoothy wild berry. that takes me to dinner. a carnation breakfast will take you to dinner. celery with a little peanut butter. handful of nuts. afternoon i grab something with protein. i often dont eat lunch. a late morning breakfast of cheerios not a lot of snacking.

saltines. though empty calories and my calories generally have something in them.

a slimfast for the nutrients.

get the word diet and lack and deprived out of head

29. Advice from a fitness coach at the YMCA
I usually crave savory over sweet too...more often than not, I crave a salty snack, and she suggested...drum roll, please...dill pickles.

So I always have a jar of Vlasic Kosher Dills in the fridge and sure enough, it doesn't satisfy 100% of my cravings, but a lot of them.

35. To all saying it can't be a "diet"
Well, call it what you will but I have to restrict my caloric intake to about 1200 calories to get a very slow weight loss so it's definitely a food restriction. I like to eat healthy so every damned calorie has to be reasonably useful, and I am aware that I have to find a way to live this way, even more reason to have many eating experiences.

Got the mini pretzels and mustard, got the pickles, will look for SPIKE, like but fear hummus, can't abide anise so licorice is out, and I'm thinking about the others.

I'm big on watermelon at the moment, and just about foundered on brussels sprouts yesterday, which I will be more careful about in the future.

Kee 'em comin'!

36. I found this new chip recently - Popcorners
Air-popped-corn chips, a 1 oz serving has 120 calories but only 30 are from fat. They're pretty good and the ingredient list isn't all scary, unpronounceable stuff either. And homemade pita chips are good too, but lately when I get the urge to snack I just go and try to find something to keep myself out of trouble. :)

38. Genisoy soy crisps
They're like rice cakes, only they have soy in them, so they have a fair amount of protein, as well as fiber. Many grocery stores carry them. One can find them in the "health" food section. There's a store locator at the bottom of this link:

http://www.genisoy.com/products/snacks/#soycrisps

I actually prefer popcorn. It's more filling. There are all kinds of cheese sprinkles and other popcorn flavorings that add some variety to your popcorn.
