What's your favorite mixed drink?

My favorite one has been a Zombie for the longest, but I've got a major Mojito thang going on right now.

15. I have a mint patch in my garden just for Mojitos
Edited on Wed Jul-13-11 11:32 AM by Xithras
By the way, while that drink in your photo is pretty typical of the Mojito-ish recipe used by most bars and restaraunts, where drink preparation is rushed and many bartenders are undertrained, that is NOT a proper Cuban Mojito.

THIS is a proper Cuban Mojito:

You'll note that there is a full lime and at least one complete sprig of mint in that glass, and not merely a little bit of juice, a couple of mint leaves, and a wedge to garnish the edge, like you'll find in most bars. This is the traditional way that Mojitos have been made since the 16th century. Squeeze an entire lime into a glass, toss in a couple sprigs of mint, mix in some sugarwater spirited out of the sugarcane factory, a couple glugs of rum, and add water as needed to mellow it. Nowadays we use club soda, and it's better that way, but traditional Mojitos used plain water. I made one that way once, just to try it. It wasn't bad, but I prefer the soda-water method.

37. I don't know - that OP pic looks to me like it is all in there
Edited on Wed Jul-13-11 07:36 PM by Kali
it has been muddled - which is good and proper, you want to smash the mint and lime peel a bit to get the good oils out

and I don't use syrup for mojitos, I use coarse sugar - it helps with the muddling - try it!

18. So many drinks, so little time. Depends on the time of year.
Summer - A tomate - Ricard with cassis, ice and water.
Spring - Suze with orange juice and soda
Kir - Aligote with cassis.
Autumn - Gin and tonic.
Winter - Gin martini - Bluecoat gin and Dolin or Noilly Prat vermouth.

Jack and coke used to be a staple.

I used to like Tanqueray and tonics during the Summer.

Occasionally a fresh, top shelf margarita on the rocks is good.

35. 1) Classic martini 2) Classic gin and tonic
I am very old-school when it comes to mixed drinks.

These are both gin drinks, of course, and it can't be a martini without Martini and Rossi dry vermouth. With olives.

Gin and tonic is the most refreshing hot weather drink. With lime, of course.

44. One I invented...the GINger Ale
Highball glass, full of ice
One shot good-quality gin
Fill with ginger ale
Twist of lemon

There are about four things you can do with gin: you can make a Classic Martini, you can make an Improved Martini by leaving the fucking Vermouth at the store because it tastes like shit and just run straight gin through your martini shaker, you can mix it with tonic water, or you can make a GINger Ale.
