2. Is it just me or is Real Time playing all year round these days? Seems to me
they are taking the odd week off but not closing down the show for months at a time. Which I like.

I just can't get into any of their other shows.

7. The Wire was the best TV drama ever made ....
but it was over several years ago!

Treme, also by Simon, isn't nearly as good.

9. Deadwood is my all time favorite.
Edited on Wed Jul-13-11 07:27 PM by MrSlayer
The best show ever as far as I'm concerned. Game of Thrones is my current favorite on HBO along with Curb and Boardwalk Empire. Showtime has the better shows overall right now though with Dexter and Shameless. The Borgias is also very good.

10. If you like The Wire, you should watch The Shield
Both are excellent but I would place The Shield just a notch above.

13. Boardwalk Empire
gotta love a continuity department that has to find "a" book by Sinclair Lewis to put in the hands of one of the characters because the Sinclair Lewis book they want wasn't published until a year AFTER the show is set. Too bad they didn't READ that book before they stuffed it in the guy's hand & told him to pretend it was "Main Street."

The book, btw, is "Free Air," which is a really good story about a girl, her father, & a young man who travel to Seattle by car in pre-WWI-era US (although it was published in 1919). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_Air

19. I had a love/hate with "Six Feet Under"
Saw every episode (watched it on DVD after a recommendation from a friend), but there were times when i found every single character unlikable.
Still, it was amazing television, and the finale deserved all the kudos it received.

26. many of those mentioned
The Wire (we're just now on S3), Rome, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones.

But add Season One of Carnivale. The suits screwed it up in season 2, but S1 was brilliant.

27. Bill Maher.
I used to watch the previous incarnations of his show.

They ran the miniseries JOHN ADAMS again on July fourth and I recorded it to watch in single chunks.

I liked the Lady Gaga Monster Ball Tour special. There was so much stuff going on I watched it three times. The best part is during the credits. She is backstage singing "Born this Way" acappella with her three backup singers. she has a beautiful voice.

When i had showtime I watched Penn and Teller's Bullshit. I like Teller!! I think penn put it on Showtime so he could use variations of the F-bomb in every other sentence and have naked girls and mention boobs!!

I watched Boardwalk Empire and it was pretty good. I watched the last few episodes of The Tudors and liked it.

I tried to watch The Borgias but got confused as to who everybody was except the Pope, Jeremy Irons.

I've watched The Big C and found it amusing. Californication is just david duchovny being what he wanted to be before he went to hollywood -- a horny English professor. He was working on a Ph.D. in English at Yale before he went to Hollywood. Seriously.

But Breaking Bad is the best damn TV show out there right now. Period.

Louie is also awesomely hilarious.
