Doorway Ettiquette for all you dumbasses out there |
|
When you're about to walk one way through double doors, and I am walking through the other way, just because I opened my door first DOESN'T ELECT ME THE FUCKING DOORMAN. Open your own door or wait til I'm out of the way.
And another thing, just because you bump into a friend near a doorway doesn't mean you have to stand RIGHT THERE blocking it while having your conversation.
That is all.
For now.

2. Always open any door for anyone whenever you possibly can. |

Pretty simple manners, yes?

4. This is exactly why everyone carried guns in the Old West! Confusion about saloon door etiquette! |
|
What else could they do? Send a telegram to Eliza Bisbee Duffey, asking for her advice? Certainly not!
Remember, however, if you wish to adopt such manners, that the offer to exchange gunfire should be made politely -- and also that a well-bred gentleman should not be in a great hurry to exchange gunfire with a lady

Then maybe we'll believe you're not a doorman.

8. Don't get me started on supermarket etiquette |
|
My usual supermarket for years and years was open 24 hours a day every day (except some holidays), which was great because as a night person I loved doing my shopping when I had the whole store to myself. Now they close at midnight which not only means that I won't be able to shop on my way home from work in the late night hours but that I have to do my shopping at ordinary peak times and make a special trip.
I had forgotten how much it SUCKS to shop when the supermarket is full of shoppers. By the time I get out of there I want to beat everyone over the head with my largest and heaviest grocery item.
It wasn't anywhere near this bad when I used to do the food shopping for the family as one of my chores when I was a teenager. Back then, people weren't so damn oblivious to their surroundings or so rude with no sense of etiquette whatsoever. I think it's the totally oblivious people that piss me off more than the flat out rude people. How can people really go through life surrounded by other people and be so completely immersed in their own little bubble that they will walk right into you nearly knocking you over, bounce off and just carry on as if you were nothing but a telephone pole?
I've searched and searched and there is no 24 hour supermarket anywhere even remotely near me.

11. I feel your pain! I feel it! |
|
I have a Market Basket and a Stop & Shop near me. I never shop at the Market Basket any more because it is constantly clogged with shoppers and carts and I get fed up very quickly. There is NO PLACE in Market Basket you can be where you're not in someone's way or they're not in yours. I get so tired of the immediate "Excuse me!" "Excuse ME!" "Excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse Me!" the moment I try to stop and look at some merchandise to see what I want to buy. That's if people bother to say anything at all rather than shoving past. Forget waiting in the deli line - that's always 10 or 12 deep. Forget finding a cash register without five or six fully-loaded carts waiting in front of you. Forget anything that involves a quick pass through to pick up a couple of needed supplies.
So I go to Stop & Shop which is less crowded but more expensive. It's worth it - and beautiful to be able to navigate in and out of the parking lot without waiting for people to pull in or pull out and then weave past their cars like NYC at rush hour.

12. sometimes the worst ones are the ones that work there |
|
Like stocking shelves. They WILL NOT get out of anyone's way and fling empty cardboard boxes all over the aisle. What the hell did they close the place at night FOR if it wasn't for faster and more efficient stocking of shelves??? They need to stock shelves during peak shopping times??? Or worse, buff the floor so they have have to completely close off a few aisles at a time??? "No, sorry, you may not get any dairy items for the next two hours because they're buffing the floor." WHAT??? Then point me to the supermarket bar where I can soothe my ragged nerves with several double shots for two hours so I don't spend that two hours murdering you with the buffer!
ARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
