Just let me say...I love turtles
I had to get out and move two turtles from the street the other day.

...one a big box turtle and the other a snapping turtle. They were both out in the traffic. I was afraid somebody would run them over... so I jumped out and steered them back to the ponds/piney woods...I didn't have to take them far. Just out of traffic.

Big rains the last few days...back here in the swamp.

Here's a hint....best to pick them up by the back end of the shell

6. I saved a turtle a year ago. I almost ran over it. I drove a mile further (there was nowhere to turn
around) doubled back and the turtle was still on the road, still in one piece.

11. a couple of months ago I rescued and relocated a huge loggerhead and a juvenile green
there were a few that didnt make it however. This year has seen the biggest increase of nests and hatchlings of sea turtles around here that many have ever seen.

Last month I was in Puerto Rico working to save manatees near a marine construction site.

...and no, I never lick my fingers after I handle slippery reptiles

220-million-year-old turtle leaves researchers shell shocked

OTTAWA - A research team's discovery of the world's oldest turtles has provided new insight into the evolution of the ancient creatures.

The Canadian Museum of Nature's Xiao-chun Wu, along with his team of researchers from Canada, China and the U.S., uncovered two well-preserved fossils of ancestral turtles that swam in the shallow ocean of present-day China 220 million years ago.

These are the oldest turtles ever found - even older than most dinosaurs.

(edit) I, for one, welcome the return of our reptilian overlords.
