If you have EZ Pass/Fastlane you don't need to come to a complete stop for the machine to read your transponder. By the same token I've seen people drive through at 30 MPH plus.

14. Toll booth design ettiquette

Don't design a freaking unmanned tollbooth with signs making it sound like if you open your door or step outside your vehicle while stopped, you will be instantly arrested then shot. One of us (*cough* me) WILL be all alone on that empty stretch of highway facing those signs - in a rental car whose power windows don't work.

That seems to be a chronic problem around here. "TOLL 1½ MILES" scream the signs across the highway.

"TOLL 1 MILE" scream more signs

And usually about when you start to get your search on for change is when you hit the panic-inducing rumble strips.


God, I hate tolls and I hate living where there are tolls because the fuckwads in the state capital are too cowardly to add 3¢ to the gas tax or whatever.

17. Tom-Tom told me to keep left but the toll booths were to the right.

Had never driven on a toll road before and didn't know what to expect when coming up to one other then knowing that I ought to have alot of change on hand.

On the way to Chicago, Tom-Tom was telling me to keep left but I saw the signs saying the toll raod was coming up. Then I saw the booths and thought "Shit!" as I had to quickly cut across two lanes to get to the pay booths. I could have just driven thru the EZ Pass and payed the toll later on line but I didn't know that at the time.

some of the new EZ pass tollbooths can take passes at 70 mph. Or faster.
