"The Runaway Jury" is a helluva movie
We watched the DVD tonight, and now know why I wanted to see this when it came out.

Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman have been friends since 1956, yet this was their first movie together. Their one scene together was worth it. John Cusack is seriously great too.

It was almost Mametesque with the con-game aspect, and the plot twists. I recommend it if you are curious.

4. Sadly...
IIRC, the current Tyco trial doesn't have near so happy an ending.

I loved Runaway Jury, BTW.

2. I agree. It's the best of the Grisham movies so far.
I give credit to Gary Fleder (the director and coproducer) for mining the talent resources he had, especially in Hoffman and Hackman. John Cusack (one of my personal faovites) and Rachel Weisz (hubba hubba) were extraordinary. The "bench strength" in this movie was also remarkable, with Luis Guzmán and Dylan McDermott in uncredited bit parts, no less.

3. great cinematography
And New Orleans makes a great set. I agree, the ensemble cast is worth its weight in gold.

5. WOw we jsut saw it "onDemand" last night
Fantastic movie. I love "man taken out of his element" (Die Hard) movies and "When a plan comes together" (Shawshank redemption) and this was one of the latter.

Cusack moved around the country to try to get on such a jury. He basically did what the "crazy man" with the Guns Kill t-shirt did only more subtley. I hear that the book is REALLY good.

6. ever see any Mamet movies?
Check out "The Spanish Prisoner" or "House of Games". They will keep you guessing as the plan comes together. I love those kinds of movies too.

8. Go with "Prisoner" first
Steve Martin in a serious role. I am a sucker for con movies.

9. We saw it last night also
Great movie! Also thought of Tyco and Martha's jury. Sure gave one food for thought about our system!

10. Hackman's monitoring room
Positively Orwellian. No one plays a bad guy like him.
