All In The Family Question
Archie Bunker was a liberal by comparison to the RW variety of today.

My question: Do you remember if Archie ever said that Nixon didn't go far enough, that he was a Reagan fan?

Just wondering how prescient Norman Lear was . . . .

2. Carroll O'Connor was a solid liberal - Archie was his way of making fun of wingnuts.
I remember hearing an interview with him where he said that he was shocked that Archie became a national hero. The very people who he was making fun of became fans of his character. Just think - maybe Bill-O is actually a liberal!

3. I don't remember, but he did always call Nixon
Richard. "E". Nixon. I don't know why, but we always found that funny.

6. Ever notice what a great job liberals do at portraying conservatives?
It's because we understand them. We know what motivates them, we just disagree. That's how Stephen Colbert can convince unwitting conservatives that he's one of them. Also how Carrol O'Connor did such a good job as Archie Bunker.

Conservatives, on the other hand, do an absolutely horrible job of portraying liberals. They don't understand us at all, and believe us to be the horrible strawmen that people like Rush Limbaugh say we are. They really think we hate America.

7. Remember Robert Ryan?
Often played cops, conservative types and heavies in films. Was Colonel Everett Dasher Breed in The Dirty Dozen.

He went up against HUAC in the fifties, ACLU member, civil rights defender and pacifist.

8. Archie loved Reagan.
In the Ford/Carter election, he told Mike he wrote in Nixon. When Edith asked him if he really did, he said no, he just says it to drive Mike nuts; he really wrote in Reagan.

And speaking of prescience: I forget the context of the episode, but in one episode Archie said, "You're going to get Reagan in '80." No shit!
