I often figure movies out before the end. But "Apartment Zero" with Colin firth totally surprised me.

1. "Black Swan" - I swear to dog I thought that was going to suck mightily
Ballet is not something I've ever been interested in

But this movie was the apex of 'crazy chick flicks'

They don't get better than Black Swan

And this is coming from someone who loved Girl Interrupted

5. How to Train Your Dragon...
When it was in the theaters I blew it off as a kids cartoon...

Saw it on HBO and was blown away that it was cute, had a positive message, AND was entertaining as hell for adults...

34. +1
I saw it with a friend who studied film and afterwards we had a very lengthy discussion about what was "real" in that movie and what parts consisted of the fantasies of which characters.

One of my top three all time films. Lynch at his best is untouchable.

way back in 1990 or 1991. I was unfamiliar with Greenaway and came out of the theatre somewhat...stunned.

9. I'm getting a little queasy thinking back to some of the scenes.
Part of me wants to watch it again to see how/if my perspective has changed, but then I think why put myself through it.

Sam Rockwell was superb, as was every other aspect of that film. So refreshing to see some thinking person's sci-fi for a change.

24. Here's another Korean movie that I think is even better.
Edited on Wed Jul-20-11 12:42 AM by Forkboy
It has Choi Min-Sik from Oldboy, and is easily the best movie I've seen this year.

I Saw The Devil

And as a bonus, here's the trailer for The Good, The Bad, The Weird featuring Lee Byung Hun from I Saw The Devil. This was the best movie I saw last year. This is a tremendously entertaining film. Korean cinema is churning out the best movies on the planet over the last 5 years. I could rattle off even more, trust me. :)

I saw it on the bus in Mexico.

It wasn't translated, but I could figure out most of the plot just by watching what was going on... OR SO I THOUGHT.

The ending blew me away. :o

27. A Big Hand for the Little Lady
I actually thought I had watched the film once upon a time without seeing the actual ending. It changes the story one hell of a lot those last five minutes. Favorite Joanne Woodward film bar none.

There Will be Blood. Not so much surprising as just wow.

But possibly the single most surprising thing ever was the film Out of Sight. Proving that he may be one of the greatest directors of actors alive, Steven Soderbergh got a damned good performance out of Jennifer Lopez.

Amazing.
