55. why not???
australian kids do it all the time on next to nothing, there's a great backpacker's network, several of my friends have done it -- one guy did it for 3 years (included china) on money he scammed teaching english (he has no qualifications to teach english other than he speaks english, that was in china) and playing 1/2 no limit poker, so you know there's a cheap workaround!

the cost is not anything to hold you back, as for health care, a couple of my friends have taken advantage of the good cheap health care in thailand, so if health is the reason you're holding back, i would still urge you to look into it

i have visited the most expensive of those countries already, japan and australia, pretty much on coins scooped out of the sofa and waiting for giveaways on airfare

some dreams are in fact achievable, never say never!!!

you don't have to disappear for a year if your job won't give a sabbatical, look out for the cheap airfares or the credit cards giving away miles, get a ticket, visit for a week or two, then next year do it all over again, even if you don't do the whole trip in one chewy chunk, eventually you see a lot of different countries that way

59. I am almost 55 and cannot and will not live out of a backpack
like a 20 year old Aussie kid. I am way too old for that. :) And I just lost half my hours and pay at my current job. If I lose the rest I have enough money to survive for about four months, and then the game is over. And after being unemployed for 3 1/2 of the last 5 1/2 years, it is entirely possible I will never work again.

If I were 30, I'd probably try to go get a job teaching ESL in Korea or Vietnam - I once knew a guy who did that for a few years after he got out of the Air Force; in fact, that's how he met his wife. But that ship sailed at least a couple of decades ago. And what would I do with my cat, who has saved my sanity for the last years?

39. I was talking to an acquaintance at our testing center
today. I have been sick and an no teaching this summer, so she asked me how I was doing.

I told her that I was recovering rapidly from the surgery and would be teaching again in the fall.

She replied "no weapon formed against you shall prosper." (Isaiah 54:17) It was kind of creepy.

26. If you can get ESPN3 on your computer...
then look for Aussie Rules Football games under the 'upcoming' tab...

Their weekends start before ours ...but if you can't see a game at a decent hour...
then they show a few games under the 'replay' tab.

I love Rugby...it is amazing...

12. Travel, travel, travel, but...
As the reality sets in, I am more concerned about leaving my family in the best financial condition as possible. I won't travel because it now seems pointless and selfish. I'm happy just being around my family. That's all that really matters to me.

is that the legacy you want to make of your life? people celebrating because you died and they can cash in?

live your dream too, what makes you feel that you don't deserve to have even a tiny piece of your dream? travel is one of the cheapest things you can do for yourself, when you consider the value of what you get for your dollar

37. Be a true partner in a loving and committed relationship
the kind where you respect each other and bring out the best in the other. where you have life goals and help each other to reach them. I've settled. my biological clock was ticking. the baby daddy is a good person.. but I feel like his mother. We will probably never marry.. but probably never marry anyone else as we're committed to making the best life that we can for our son. I'll continue to make the best of it and always look at my blessings.. (he is a decent provider, a nice guy, a good dad and never abusive) but.. at times, I do long for that unique relationship where you actually become a true partner in life.

This has been on my to-do list for many years, but it's getting more and more unlikely. It doesn't look like fun to me, it looks terrifying. As time goes by, I get less willing to do things just to overcome my fear of doing them.

Not planning to ride it this year either.
