On August 6th, a bunch of people will go to Houston for a day of prayer, fasting, religious chauvinism, and magical thinking, and Texas Governor Rick Perry will do some unabashed grandstanding.

We believe that America and the world have real problems, and that they won't be solved by shouting at the sky, not eating for a day, and begging the gods to relieve us of the responsibility.

In fact, we believe it would be better to stay home on August 6th, get laid, eat some greasy food, sleep in, and then go out into the world, rested and fortified, and actually work on solving our problems.

8. The most amazing thing was when he assumed the office after Bush was kicked upstairs to D.C.

Some empty-headed babble about how he didn't know to handle the state deficit. A case of willful ignorance he was playing. Everyone knows, unless they are willfully denying the rules of good governance. Which I'll have to say 'the hair' has taken to new heights or lows.

Most of the people I know there are either Beckerheads or have just given up completely and shake their heads. The first group believe that the government still owes them something, just not all those 'other' people. The second have adapted a 'everyman for himself and God against all' philosophy.

I remember when DeLay was more a local scumbag with some of the others, who I never thought would get to the level of power they achieved. Richards was in office when I left the state for a brief period, and then Bush snuck in while I was gone. I came back and the lottery was in place and the Shrub was burning cedar trees because he had SFB and it certainly is contagious. Then he took the same style to Washington.

I don't know if the state level of government will ever be fixed again because the fundies had a long term plan and it worked like a charm. Sorry guys, I feel the pain. Whenever I visit, I refuse to discuss politics there. It's bad enough that FNN is the primary news.
