BEETLES! (graphic warning, especially for hyphenate)
haven't seen a swarm like this in years - had a good long soaking rain yesterday (finally) and a half inch on Monday (or was it Sunday? I'm too tired to remember) and the whole universe is erupting with plant and animal life around here!

kept hearing things banging on the screen door, went out and saw these guys all over the plants under the light by the front door. Got a big jar full to save for the chickens tomorrow, because I bet they will mostly be gone by morning - at least I hope so, jeebus!

and with that I bid you all good night, sleep tight, don't let the gold bugs bite (they don't) hee hee

2. We called those 'June bugs' when I was growing up. As in 'Dumb as a June bug.'

They seem to love screen doors and porch lights above all other things. Nice food for the birds though, dogs, cats, etc. Good eating. Glad you got the rain at last. Looks nice and green there.

10. see I grew up calling the big iridescent green ones June bugs
these yellow gold ones I know are more commonly called that and I don't remember ever seeing so many. We have another smaller and more bronze gold beetle that I do remember swarming and those are sctually what we used to call gold bugs.

these are "those bigger yellow gold bugs"

like the scientific nomenclature?

oh, and they all come out in July

3. My kids would freak seeing that many beetles on the porch..
A junebug got in the den and I had to catch and release before the kids would come back in to the room.

11. the big green ones are big enough to tie a light string to and make them fly in circles
I can remember doing that as a kid - and trying to get them in each others' hair

They're late. Must be women. ;)

Of course they could also be men who refused to ask for directions.
