I am having a good day - feel like a king.
Just got a call from the blood donor center. Yesterday I gave white cells. Today they called and said the patient receiving them got quite a bump from them and it may have put her over the hump.
Briefly from what I understand, when they call me for white cells someone is in pretty bad shape. Usually the patient has lost the ability to make white cells and their body can't fight even the slightest disease. Often from cancer treatment or maybe a leukemia.
When they start a white cell regimen it can go for 2 or 3 weeks. I will be called on to potentially give every 4th day. usually when the regimen has been halted, it is because the patient did not respond or died.
But today, a very good call - My blood saved a life.

This is not the first time - once there was a call on a very early Sunday morning for a baby. All I was told was that the baby lived and the family was very thankful.
And once while I was waiting for the shot which goes with the donation (they give me a shot to make me sick so my body creates white cells), I accidentally met the family of the guy I was apparently donating for. The shot was given on the cancer ward. The family was having a birthday party for the patient. Being the friendly type I just asked what the party was for. The man's daughter told me that they thought this would be his last birthday party, but he had gotten quite a lift from a white cell a couple days ago and he was going to get another donation from the same person tomorrow. Well, that could only be me. i felt very good.

Sorry for bragging - I really don't care to talk about myself that much. But this one felt extra good.

And
While I was at the dem fair booth this morning, a couple people stopped by to thank me for my letters to the editor. One was a republican who is fed up with them.
plus-
Today is our youngest's 31st birthday. My wife came very, very close to dying that day. Once this used to a rough day for us. But today, nothing.
finally -
i am getting the hang of posting on the blog I was invited to join. I am getting pretty independent.
