Has anyone ever ordered eye glasses online?
Yikes. I can't afford to pay 500 buckaroos for a new pair of glasses. I see that I can get my prescription filled at eyebuydirect.com for just over $100. Has anyone used them before? Are the lenses ok?

1. You can't get them fitted by mail order. Besides...
The only place that could get my daughter a much-needed pair the same day was Lenscrafters - not part of my insurance plan. Exam, frames, and glasses checked in about $150. That included fitting and lifetime adjustments. $500 is way too much even for progressive bifocals. Look around.

9. You can get them fitted after they arrive; many optical shops will do it for free.

2. I've been really happy with Zenni optical
Their glasses start at $7 for single vision without tinting. I've gotten several pairs for around $12-15 each including tinting. At that price, I can switch 'em out like costume jewelry.

13. I did good with Zenni Optical.
If the frames don't fit you right or need adjustment, of course you need to get help or do it yourself. The thing is even their more expensive frames are very inexpensive. I had some that fit / felt better on my head than others, and they were all okay. I will go there again. They really were pretty fast about their turnaround time, too.

They're giving away free eyeglasses for one day (tomorrow). You have to pay extra for progressives, and there are limited styles.

To get the free glasses. They're only for Canadians. And they get great health care too. Boo hoo!

5. I've ordered glasses twice on the internet.
I'm through with going to Lenscrafters and paying $300 for ONE PAIR of glasses.

Got a copy of my scrip from my doctor and you must include PD (Pupillary distance, how far apart your eyes are).
There is a different PD for distance, if you're in bifocals.

I am over 40,very nearsighted and in bifocals. i had one plastic frame break and a wire frame where the left lens fell out, but that was because it was stronger and thicker on the edges. It wasn't the problem of the frame, it was that the lens was a bit too thick. I do better with the smaller frames that are popular now, because the lenses are not as thick.

I ordered a couple years ago from zenni optical, recently I got two pairs of bifocals from goggles4u.com

Ten bucks for frames, $38 for bifocals with lines.

Having more than one pair of glasses to wear at a time, and also contacts, is a major luxury for me. I've worn glasses since I was about seven years old, we're talking the Kennedy administration, and I needed them before that. I was always reading books and mom didn't know why I always had my nose in a book. She took me to the eye doctor and found out. My folks had perfect vision and only wore reading glasses, so it took them a few years to figure this out.

I've met people who needed glasses in high school and their moms said they were faking it, and the teacher didn't notice they had to WALK UP TO THE BLACKBOARD to take notes. People are crazy!!!

:wtf:

6. I was one of them
Only got glasses after my math teacher asked me solve the equation on the board, and I asked "which one?". There was only one equation on one board...

Now that I'm North of sixty, being nearsighted rocks: I can read without glasses if there's decent light. But I can relate to going through elementary school and junior high in a complete fog of moving blobs of color.

For driving, television and movies Zenni optical is my friend.

7. Another vote for Zenni Optical
Ordered glasses from them twice. About to order for a third time. Great service, great prices. Can't recommend them highly enough.

8. I use Zenni Optical and really like the results
For $12 I got a decent pair of "around the house" glasses. $75 for my ultra-high-index polymer, rimless, glare-resistant coated "professional looking" pair.

10. Yup....
I bought my son a nice pair online. The had the tint thing, scratch protection, something else I can't remember. He wears contacts but he always has glasses in case he can't wear his contacts. He picked a pair that looked almost exactly like the ones he like at the eye doctors. They came quickly, prescription was right and they looked great on him.

I'll try and find the site again I had it bookmarked on my other computer. It doesn't work anymore...

11. Thanks everyone for your recommendations
I did check Zenni out but they don't do prism which I need. eyebuydirect does though. I think I'll take my chances with them. I'm in Victoria, BC. Lenscrafter, even with their constant sale is way up there for what I need and my optometrist office quoted $434 for their budget version. Haven't checked out costco but there is no way they'll beat $100.

:-)

15. If you're in Canada
You can get the free pair from Clearly Contacts. Their ad-ons are pricier than Zenni, though.
