Does anyone keep a sugar bowl on the kitchen table? |
|
I mean a small bowl with a lid and maybe a little spoon in it. We had one when I was a kid in the 60's but it never occurred to me to have one as an adult. And if people come over to my place now, I have to dig some packets out of the cabinet. Haven't noticed one sitting out at friends and families places either.

but on a counter near the coffee maker I keep a sugar dispenser like they used to have in restaurants - glass body with metal lid that has a little hole with a small hinged flapper over it - a heavy coffee cup with an assortment of spoons in it, and a small pottery "crock" with my artificial fake creamer powder product in it

2. I keep one on the kitchen counter. |
|
A little blue glass sugar bowl with a lid, and a little spoon. I hardly ever use it, but I guess it's habit, one of those things I grew up with. There was always a sugar bowl on the table when I was a kid.

4. No, but we had one on the counter when I was a kid. Maybe if I was |
|
a big coffee drinker or something I would keep one, but I don't see the point of having one.

I have several sugar bowls, but I don't do that.
When I was a kid, a napkin dispenser, a sugar bowl, salt and pepper shakers, and a toothpick dispenser used to sit on the table all the time.
We have a sugar dispenser in the cupboard, close at hand. My husband brought it home from work when his department closed down for good. I don't know why. Neither of us use sugar in our coffee, or on cereal. He uses honey on his cereal.
I wonder why so many housewives in the fifties kept all that crap on the table. I don't even have canisters on my counter, the ones that hold coffee, tea, sugar and flour. I have those in containers in the cupboard, too.

The World's Most Wonderful Human Being uses it to put some on his Grape-Nuts, when he has them for breakfast. I occasionally use it to add a bit to decaf coffee after dinner to make it "dessert."
Old people are funny that way.

9. I have two sugar bowls on the counter. |
|
One with real sugar and one with artificial sweetner.
I don't use either one, but a LOT of people come over to my house for coffee, including my MOTHER, who lives across the STREET from me who comes over EVERY DAY.
I also have a beautiful sugar bowl that houses those little things you put at the ends of ears of corn. It's on a shelf.

The only time we use sugar is baking bread and feeding the bees. If visitors want sugar with their coffee, like you, dig out the packets.

alongside the one for tea and coffee. The jars are antiques I got from my Grandmother, I love them! Even if I didn't use sugar, coffee and tea I'd still have them out on my counter.

I should have noted that the jars have Coffee, Tea and Sugar etched into them, "so even if I didn't use those things....".

seems rather a hassle if you would have to dig in the cabinet every time you want to sweeten some coffee?
i have a separate silver bowl with a lid for the packets of artificial sweetener
the sugar is in a crystal bowl
pretty standard i thought? some of my friend have those little honey bears instead, i hate that, the honey just goops at the bottom of your tea or coffee and it's never the right sweetness

It's on the top of the microwave. We don't even drink that much coffee or tea but I use it for when recipes call for a little sugar.

My current 'sugar bowl' is a plastic container in the pantry. I do use it regularly, however.

27. Not only don't I have a sugar bowl ... |
|
... I don't have a kitchen table. I do keep sugar in a well-sealed jar in the pantry. It's too humid to keep it in anything that doesn't seal.
None of us put any in our coffee or tea (or on anything else on a daily basis), so that may have something to do with it too.
