Ripping one of my DVDs on my trusty old laptop. It's taking forever. I have tried using Handbrake to rip DVDs but I always end up with a mess of FAIL after hours of anticipation. I'm using this software called bitripper to convert the thing to .avi format. Then, maybe after that I can use Handbrake to convert the .avi to a format that will finally work on the old iPod Touch Blogslut Jr. gave me.

Cross fingers.

FYI: I'm ripping Hackers, naturally.

2. I use an old freeware program called "DVDecrypt"
It may or may not still be available.

For converting, I use JetAudio. It does a great job converting audio and video (plenty of format adjustments available.)

Now, I don't own any iProducts, so I don't know if this will work for you or not. As I own a Cowon S9 for my portable media, JetAudio is just right for my needs :)

3. Well, see, here's the deal
I had no problem converting .avi movies that I downloaded offa the Internet Archive into .mpeg-4 via Handbrake. They loaded onto the iPod just fine. But it's these gall-dang DVDs I can't get to convert.

I like Handbrake because it's got nice presets specifically designed for the evil fruit products. It just seems to hate my machine when it comes to converting discs.

If I can't make this work, I'll give the proggies you mentioned a shot.

100% done! Now we'll see if it all worked!

4. Squeee!
I worked! It WORKED! IT WORKED!

Now to pop another DVD in the drive and take a long nap while it rips!

I'm so happeeeeee! My desktop doesn't have a DVD drive. My teevee DVD player crapped out on me years ago. The only thing I can play my movies on is my laptop but I like to play movies while I'm working on it. This way I can watch my movies AND work! LALALALALALALALALALA!

Maybe later I'll convert these dealios to play on the iPod but for now, to be able to play them on the desktop while I work on the laptop is a huge achievement. I'm been finagling with this dilemma for almost two years and I finally figured it out!

Whoohoo!
