Gene Kelly did more things well than anyone else. And he always seemed like such a cool guy in the process.
Just checked on Wikipedia and found out he was a lifelong progressive Democrat! Double cool points for Mr. Kelly.

6. Always liked him. He was also a damn good boxer. He learned to fight to keep from getting beat up by |

the neighborhood bullies who knew his mother made him take dance lessons.

If you aren't familiar with how 'awesome' he is, check this out: http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F&gl=US#/watch?v=-6S5caRGpK4 He can sing, dance, act, juggle, do comedy and even magic. :) (Google 'Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog'.)

So emotional and powerful. The exact opposite of crooners like Sinatra. I just can't get into his stuff.
Bryn Terfel, baritone. Check out his MACK THE KNIFE on YouTube.

An AMAZING performer, who only gets better with time.
I took my skeptical BF to his first TJ show. At the end of the night, he was a believer.

35. William Claude Dunkenfeld |
|
Better known to the world as W.C. Fields.
I read a biography of Fields a few years ago. In addition to his movie work, he was an accomplished stage entertainer, and it was probably his first love as a performer. For one stage show, he developed a trick where he crossed his legs, balancing his cane, cigar and straw hat on his lap. When it came time to stand up and walk off stage, he popped his leg just so and stood up to catch the cane in his hand, the cigar in his mouth, and have the hat land on his head.
He worked at it for weeks to get it just right. Finally, opening night of the play came around, and it was time for him to get up and exit the stage. He did his trick and . . . nothing. It worked so well, so effortlessly, that nobody even noticed it. He re-worked the scene for the second night to bring more attention to it, but again, nothing. So he did what any good entertainer would do with a bit he'd worked so hard to perfect: He junked it.

39. When you read about the odds Sammy faced... |
|
...he gets even greater.
In the book "Rat Pack Confidential" there's an anecdote about Sammy in the Army. He supposedly asked another soldier "Where's the mess tent, pal," and the reply was "It's over there, and I'm not your pal, ni**er."
The fact that he rose above EXTREME prejudice with humor and sheer talent is nothing short of amazing.
