Anyone else go to right-wingnut websites to annoy people? |
|
I don't know why I do it. Why do I respond to idiots? climate deniers, palin-lovers, etc, I'm talking really far-right-wing nuts.
They get really mad at me, but I don't find any satisfaction in that.
I tell myself I'm doing it in the spirit of analysis, to understand the RW "mind". But I don't think that's really it. It's like a compulsion. Maybe I need prozac.
There are a couple of reasonable people on this site and sometimes I think I'm gonna "raise" the leftwing flag here. But that's not it either - cuz the left-wing types are pretty quiet about confronting the loonies, and the loonies out-post the others by about 40 to 1.
It's not that I have time on my hands, cuz I only spend a couple of hours a day online - including e-mail and sites like commondreams and a couple of good online groups.
Once again I am "trying" to NOT go to this site. I could go there and be REALLY insulting and then get banned. That's probably the only way I will stop going there. ...sigh....

1. No. I figure that, at best, it's a complete waste of time. And at worst, I'd be helping them |
|
to learn my talking points and practice various responses. If I'm gonna argue wioth somebody, I'll choose somebody whose mind I could change

2. I don't even care if I can change their mind but |
|
rationally speaking it makes no sense to argue with people who can't even make reasoned argument.
My behavior makes no sense at all.

at FR a couple of years ago. My plan was to agree with them on everything until they trusted me, and then really let them "have it". I totally lost my shit on my first post (they were having fits about the cost of Michelle Obama's tennis shoes - remember that "controversy"?). I went off about Cindy McCain's Rethug Convention outfit - I can't remember exactly, but I want to say it was over $100,000. :puke:
Got banned right away. :P

5. No. Never. And I honestly don't understand the mentality behind it. |
|
Why aggravate yourself and/or others? To what end? You're not going to convince anyone, and in the case of conservatives, your presenting them with the other side is actually only going to make them cling to their pseudoreality even further. To put it in gambling terms, there's no money in it.

I'm not going to change anyone's mind, and I already know they hate me for what I believe.
I can simply take their word for it.

I never think I'm going to change the mind of a hard-core idiot.
but it came to me that I do it bec. I want there to be a response to their blah-blah.
like I go to a protest eg about Israel, I don't think I'm going to change the policy or anybody's mind, but something I feel strongly about I have to put my body there.
so this is certainly a lesser action, and I do - with some will power- pull myself away from the RW forum every couple of days, altho I return. :)
but now I understand my motive - I am the voice of reason. It is better than silence.

I used to do it for the catharsis, until I discovered it only had the opposite effect. The more I dealt with those idiots, the madder I got!

I have the worst ones on "ignore" so I don't see their posts unless their posts are quoted by someone. And yes - the worst posts, - esp. when they are racist, I think, what the f--k am I doing here, besides getting roiled up....

8. Years Ago, I Lurked Around Lucianne.Com, Spicing Things Up |
|
On a thread devoted to worshiping Ann Coulter, I stated that just looking at a Coulter photo caused my sperm count to drop---many lively replies to that one. I did battle with the uber-right wing Gun Enthusiasts---who bore a striking resemblance to the "liberal" Gun Enthusiasts here at DU; collected a couple of death threats in those interchanges. And to my surprise, I received some genuine if grudging affection from some of the posters there. When Lucianne went to the usual All Conservative All The Time format, me and a couple of other liberal posters were done away with. Interesting times.....

All it does is make me angrier than hell and to what end?
Life is Too Short.
I do however comment on open sites like the AJC. I think it's important here in GA to make the Democratic presence known, even if only in that small way.

14. It's easy to laugh and smirk at FR from here in California. |

If I lived in the heart of the beast it might not be so comfortable. (I have lived there.)
They do make me feel a little tiny bit superior, tho. That counts for something. I like the way they try to spell, for instance.
