5. Unfortunately , I know the feeling all too well.
Nothing like being able to finally sleep when your brain won't turn off no matter how much you want it to, until you do finally fall asleep. I hope you're able to soon.

6. That describes several nights a month for me.
I've had insomnia for years.

Tonight's a special case. I actually wanted to stay up late this time. I have no particular responsibilities right now, and I thought I could get a little loaded, and stay up late and post on DU. Then I had a rotten day at work, and the getting loaded and staying up late part became a little more important for keeping my sanity.

Thanks for listening, bro...

I know I'm shitfaced; you're very patient...

7. Insomnia too--recently upped my sleep meds, and it left me feeling like a zombie
so gone back down to where sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
A bit buzzed here too.

8. You wouldn't be-LIEVE the amount of meds I prescribe for insomnia.
We are a perpetually sleep-deprived nation.

I wish we could stop all the wars, all the suspicion, all the hatred, and just collectively get a good nights' rest for once...

As Kate Hepburn said in 'The Lion In Winter': "If we put the knives away, surely we can love each other just a little. We have so much to love each other for..."

9. Too many people with sleep defiencies for sure
although I know people that could sleep through about anything. The perpetrators of war, suspicion, hatred...probably sleep like babies. It's the people that recognize those great evils and try to do something about them that are the ones left with emotional wounds (not to even mention the wounds of the victims, not just of those trying to stop it all). Sometimes I wish it was just that for me though. More personal stuff keeps me up although many times, I don't feel bad or anything, I just can't sleep. Frustrating as you well know. I may try to conk out soon, but I wake up several times on an average night, and if I do (not always but often) I WILL check for this thread and if you're still up, and needing some company, even just words on a computer screen, I'll be back on with you.

10. Aw, that's nice. Thanks.
I had my very first patient-death before I even graduated from P.A. School. It was a still-born baby.

I'm still hoping that someday, I can deliver a living child.

Until then, I will cope. Thanks for your friendship... B-)

2. I'm here, but I have to try to sleep soon.
I have had a hard day, and it is keeping me awake.

I found out that my brother is in the hospital. He is diabetic. He has a sore on his big toe, and will need surgery.

I will see him tomorrow. I hope he does not lose his toe.

He lives alone and has no immediate family nearby. My son lives a few miles from him, and is going to see him tomorrow, too.

When my brother gets out of the hospital, I will help him get home and make sure he has what he needs. He is about 90 minutes away from me.

Patients need good emotional support if they are going to recover...

19. I wanted to get back to you.
Are you doing okay? I hope you got some sleep.

My husband and I visited my brother today. He will lose part of the bone in his foot. It looks like it will be on the top part of his big toe. He accepts that he should have done something a week earlier. Diabetics need to care for their feet.

He is in good spirits.

My daughter called him, too. I am glad there are a few of us here for him. I understand that he spoke to his son, too. His son lives pretty far away, so he will keep in touch by phone. At least he is doing that.

There are so many problems in his family. I am glad I can be there for him.

He says he will not need help when he leaves. His car is parked in the patient lot, and he will drive home. I am going to be there anyway. He does not have to be such an independent cuss.

When I was in the hospital a couple of years ago, my husband and kids did everything for me. I told them to stay home, because there were -30 wind chills. They came to see me anyway. They all did the chores at home, and when I came home, weak and tired still, there were meals in the fridge and a clean house. Someone had even called the plumber, to fix a leak my husband and I had forgotten about with the onset of my sudden illness. That is such a pathetic contrast to my brother's ignorant family. We were all there for my youngest, when she broke her collar bone. We help each other with our pets, too, since we regard them as family members. I have helped my adult children with pet care, and paid a few vet bills for them in my time.

I want my brother to have all the help I can give him. I wish I could tell you some of the shitty things his family has done over the years, but it is not my place to do that on a message board.

I hope you are well. I know that you are a caring person. Your patients are lucky to have you. Take care of yourself as well as you take care of your patients.
