We saw Dawn of the Dead this weekend... |
|
And it was good...but that is a really messed up movie. Why'd they make it again? And why are victims in movies so stupid? Did Y'all like it? Duckie

1. I like the old school Romero zombies |

I kind of thought it was more scary when the zombies were slow and deliberate. They got you by inevitability and numbers, not by kung fu leaping. I do plan on checking out the remake though, I heard there is much more time in the Mall than in the original. Gotta see it in the next week. Scott

At least that's what my BF's mom told me. Duckie

If I remember correctly about 1/3 of the movie was in the radio station and cut aways to other parts of the city. It did end up in a mall though for at least half the movie. Scott

The movie started out at a TV station that's becoming completely chaotic. Two of the characters leave it (traffic copter pilot and a producer) and later meet two SWAT team members who leave after a raid on a housing project. They leave Pittsburgh to try to find a safer area and land on the roof of a large suburban mall. It's been re-released on DVD and is worth owning. It's a great satire of consumer culture.

Zombie movie ever made.
I wanted to cry when I read the script for the new one, why does Hollywood think that they have to dumb down everything?
I'm not usually one to denounce a re-make just b/c. Their are plenty of good re-makes out there, but the new Dawn of the Dead is not one of them.
Save the $20 you'll spend going to see the movie and go buy the original on DVD instead, it will be worth it.

Dawn was my favorite of the trilogy as well. Its been awhile since I have seen it though. I remember liking how it looked at the broader picture rather than just people running from zombies. The ending with that music was so surreal and as solinvictus pointed out it is a great satire of consumer culture. Damn I wish I had some money so many DVDs I would like to own. Scott

IT was scary...but I think there could have been so much more they could have done with it. Why did Andy have to get eaten?! Duckie

I didn't care that much for the remake. This is not to say that it was necessarily a bad film. But I found that I didn't care about any of the characters the way I did in the original. The nurse was okay, but the rest of them were flat. Also, the social commentary about consumerism is sorely lacking from the new one. The remake lacks much of the depth that the original film had, and I quickly forgot about it when I left the theater. When I saw the original one many years ago, it stayed with me for months, and today is still one of my favorite horror films of all time. If you want a good zombie experience, stick with the original. P.S. The original one starts off in a TV station, but the majority of the movie takes place in a mall, and unlike the new one the humans actually have to seize control of it from the zombies before they take refuge there.
