They say the average person has 12 cars in their lifetime...

Are you living on borrowed time or vastly approaching your limit?

For how many have you had, we will only count cars that you owned or were 'allowed to use' for an extended time, say by parents.

1. I've had two, and I'm 26.
Won't be owning another for a while. Guess that puts me well behind par.

3. My brother had 17 before he graduated from high school
Edited on Sun Apr-04-04 11:30 PM by Waistdeep
He's slowed down a bit since then, though.

Me, I'm on my 11th and I've been driving for a little less than 40 years.

5. I am on car number 5 right now and I am only 22.
The one I have is a real crap bin that I got because I needed a new one quick a two months ago. I plan to pick up a nicer one in two months or so when I have more cash to spend, so that would put me up to number 6 before I turn 23.

7. Current car makes nine
All but one were bought used. Three were total klunkers, one was sold because I went overseas, four met untimely fates, and the one I have now will soon be considered an antique.

8. I've had 12, and I'm 39.
I'm not counting my wife's cars or my parents' cars. I got a license on my 15th birthday. Some were junkers. One had no seats (including the driver's seat-- I found another seat that didn't fit and bolted it down with one bolt because the other holes didn't line up). Seven were before I was 25.

20. Not too sure
After the divorce, someome told me they drove past her house, and there were four cars in the driveway and some rusty jalopy parked out front, which would be in addition to two cars parked in the garage.

I think her driving skills run in the family. Among the stories I can tell:

Her sister capsized a car in a residential neighborhood. Not sure how she did that, but the car was upside down and there was a lot of damage to some person's mailbox. Sister was unharmed.

Her other sister plowed into a bus full of prisoners on transfer from one prison to another. That accident involved four different kinds of police officers. Turns out she was high on something when it happened.

They're the kind of family that makes me feel sorry for car insurance companies.

21. My husband and I together have had 9 in 35 years
But none of those was new when we got it.

Two died completely and one was totalled in an accident.

Four just got too old to be worth fixing, so when they broke down one too many times, or got a crumpled fender on an icy road, or needed hundreds of dollars of work to pass inspection, we gave up and replaced them.

And we have two currently.

I can't say that seems like a lot.

Only at the third I've owned...since college...Got a new one last year and that should be good for 2015, when the kid is old enough to drive.

23. Hopefully I'm getting my 2nd this summer.
My first one was a 1993 Nissan Sentra that seemed to have a curse put on it ever since I had to rebuild the engine two summers ago. Part after part kept breaking down, until recently when it just died. I turn the key, and nothing happens.

If my grades are good enough, I'll be getting a '97 model.
