What did everyone do this weekend?
Edited on Mon Apr-05-04 01:19 AM by neoteric lefty
I know its not over for you west coasters. How does a typical DUer spend his or her weekend? Did you travel, see a movie or two, meet some interesting folk, kill something, whatever... I just hung out this weekend. Spent time with the Ms. and saw Groundhog Day again (Bill Murray is so funny). I also went to a few parties and drank a smidgin too much. Other than that, stayed home. Exciting, huh? :)

I must say that I want my extra hour back from whoever took it. I bet the GOP and Faux wil say that no matter who took it, Iraq was connected somehow; and whoever says otherwise is either lying, saying it for money, or is a racist.

I'll probably firm up the plans next weekend unless something of greater urgency comes up requiring planning.

8. Nothing too thrilling
Friday night we saw a Hindi movie ("Muskaan") at a local theater. Saturday we cleaned house, and my husband went to do a musical program at some friends' home while I stayed home to work on my upper level writing requirement paper. Also Saturday one of my cats was startled when I turned over in bed during a nap and bit me on the calf. Yesterday our realtor had an open house here (our house is on the market), so we went out for waffles and then went to Barnes and Noble to study (where I picked up Richard Clarke's book). Then we came home and I finished several small projects for school. Now I'm up and ready to get back at it (school/studying school/studying school/studying).

I was the butt of jokes during dinner though. I don't think I drank as much as you guys though-i only had like 4-5 drinks (left one unfinished on the bar).

It was fun meeting you all though. We have to do this more often leading up to the election! :toast:

No hangover though. I pace myself well, so I was just pleasantly buzzed. A drunk Sarah is a bit too much for human consumption, so I haven't gone there for a long, long time. :scared:

11. Read a lot.
I read "Civil Unions" by David Moats, an excellent book about the passage of the civil unions law in Vermont.

And got well into "American Dynasty" by Kevin Phillips, which is making me angry as hell.

Watched television, besides that. A lazy weekend.

13. Had a great weekend doing quite a variety of things...
Hynosis group therapy (did yall know that 88% of what we do is controlled by our subconscous mind!), went to acupuncture to help with my apparently depleted supply of endorphins, went to an AA meeting, saw a great movie "Goodbye Lenin," and finally, went to a medicine wheel group. Did a lot of work on my insides! :-) peace to all.

Edited on Mon Apr-05-04 08:20 AM by Don_G
Couldn't anything to run through a powered USB hub after I shut the power off to my notebook; the drivers would disappear. Turns out that the power saving feature on my notebook would ignore the hub after powering on again and everything would default to the Micro$haft drivers.

Unchecking 2 unrelated boxes solved the problem.

16. my son was at his grandparents for the weekend
so I went CD shopping at a record store, had a great latte in a coffee shop I used to frequent when I had more time, and had some great pizza at home. Then we went to a play Sat., Accidental Death of An Anarchist by Dario Fo - it was hysterical and was updated somewhat in the translation with references to the current political climate. We also got to go out and eat ALONE. Then I lay around and read. All in all a nice weekend.

19. Took photos of old, vacant buildings
Went downtown (Detroit) and took pictures of old tool & die shops. It's kind of a creepy area just a couple blocks from downtown. A friend and I went inside a few of them. Totally spooky--half expected to find a body in there.

Nominated to be a delegate to the Congressional District Caucaus on May 2, but lost out because I didn't count on how much pre-caucaus politicking I should have done. Dragged my neighbor to the caucaus. He is now a fire-breathing Dem......he leaned that way before but he's so fired up now I almsot have to restrain him.

Lots of fun. Enjoyed it immensely.

24. We had a good weekend...
Friday I put in some time at the zoo helping them build their Jungle Gym playground for the kids, then on saturday we went to see Dawn of the Dead. (scary as hell, won't see it again.) Then on sunday we watched Gothika on DVD. (It was great). IT was too short and I had an extra day. Mom was a bitch all weekend because she had to let go of a little money. I swear, she's a tightwad. She doesn't spend her money on anything. She also thinks $9 is a lot of money.

31. My weekend
Friday night my husband and I went to a piano recital at the Orlando Museum of Art. Dr. Gary Wolf played a piano painted by Dale Chilully. It was wonderful--very creative program. The paino is painted chartruse and has a glass top that Chilully painted in these wild fantastic colors. Then we went to an art opening for a friend of ours Cameron Moore. I met him years ago and we try to support him as much as we can. His art is still a little out of our league price wise (mid $500) but we come to his shows and are proud to call him our friend. He has given us a few sketches over the years.

Saturday, Sam went to a degree program for the Knights of Columbus. He left at 7:00 AM. I got up at 5:30 and started my household chorses. I put up the dishes, swept the kitchen, did a couple loads of wash, cleaned the bathrooms, changed the cat litter (pu), cleaned out my purse. About 8:30 AM, I took a bath. Then I went to the store to get goodis for our AFSCME meeting at the Alafaya Library at 11:00. We are trying to expand our campaign for collective bargaining into another part of the campus. The meeting was SRO. We had so many people that we spilled out into the library. It was very exciting because I am president of the local and we have been working for over 2 years on this effort. We had over 50 people sign up to help. Keep fingers crossed.

The meeting got out at about 2:00. I went home had a couple of Hebrew National hotdogs for lunch. Checked messages. Water my plants --have over 200! Went to Thirftko -- world's best thirft store. Used to be a warehouse! Bought a candle stick that looks like a little chair -- I collect them. Two silk blouses, shirt for my husband.

Sam got home about 5:30 PM. Laid down to take a nap. I started ironing. We had a Balance shake for dinner. I ironed until about 11:00 PM. I love to iron. I watched "Gladiator" while I ironed. Went to bed.

Sunday, we got up so we could go to church. I have my Sunday School class from 8:45 to 10:00 AM. My students are mostly hispanic. We made palms for Palm Sunday. They are really good children and are very sweet. Several of their parents don't speak English. I got to garage sales and thirft stores and find books for them because they don't have the funds to buy them themselves.

After Sunday School I attended mass. Sam officiated with Bishop Dorsey. Really beutiful because of all the red vestments and the palms. Love that liturgy.

After mass we walked with friends of ours around Lake Eola for Fiesta in the Park. I am helping a friend of mine who is opening a new marketplac and is looking for vendors. I gave out about 100 fliers. I bought 2 beautiful pins--I'm a costume jewelry nut too.

We had a Papa John's pizza for lunch. We started watching some TV movie with Brian Dennehy and I fell asleep on the floor. I woke up about 4:30, Sam was doing some work in our home office for our side business. We sell nutritional products.

After I got up I did some more laundry -- it's never ending! I went to the store and picked up a few things for lunches. When I got back I watched 60 minutes while I cleaned up my desk at home. We just moved in and we're still unpacking.

I then cut out coupons and skimmed the newspaper. Sam went to bed about 9:30 PM. I stayed up and watched the rerun of Meet the Press. He was interviewing that horrible Karen Hugehs--she is some kind of robot for bush.

After Karen went off the air. I cleaned my face, brushed my teeth, and went to bed!

and out shopping. Yay!

Saturday and Sunday were Garden days! And with daylight saving time, I got in an extra hour on Sunday!

Tilled a new bed and worked in compost, planted some new mail order plants and more seeds, and finished another leg of my red mulch path.

This weekend (3 day- we have Good Friday off), reprehensor and I are going to begin excavating for our pond/waterfall. Get to order a liner tonight.

And SOON I'm going to start painting that ugly decrepit fence green and put trellising and roses on it so it won't be as visible. I LIVE for sunny days!
