is The Simpsons going downhill?
I must say that recently (tonight's reruns are good examples), the episodes of the Simpson that I have watch have not been that funny. Seems like the writers are running out of fresh ideas. A lot of the plots I have seen seem to be topical in nature. A lot of political and current events kind of stuff. I love the Simpsons and will continue to watch it but it seems to have lost some of its luster over the past few years.

And FOX is marketing the show like CRAP.

1. It's better now than it's been in a while
I think back around 2000 or so it was at its worst. Since then, it's steadily gotten slightly better. It's still no where near where it was 10 years ago.

As an aside, according to what I've heard, they might cancel it. The actors who do the voices are on strike. If the dispute isn't taken care of soon, things could get ugly.

Here's a link.

2. It peaked in the mid-90's
Season 5-8 were the best. But it is still good enough to stary on the air. Still, I would tell Groening to call it quits after next season.

3. Still hits the high notes sometimes, but VERY hit and miss with
inconsistent writing. Sadly, the show is DEFINITELY on the decline though they had a pretty good season or two recently.

I used to tape it religiously every week. Now I don't bother both because most of the time I know it's not going to be that great, and I'll own the DVD's eventually anyway.

Time to hang up the spurs soon.
