Fellow Du'ers who live where the soil is red clay, such as in the Atlanta area or upstate SC, I need
your help.

I have some capris that are stained by red clay.

I've tried Oxi-Clean spray and also washed with Clorox. This has helped but the stain is still there.

I'm thinking of dying the capris a darker color, but may not. They weren't real expensive.

Any suggestions?

1. Don't dry them!!!!
I don't have to live in that part of the world to know this...just about any soil stain will come out after enough washings with scrubbing and pre-treatments between...if the garment is not dried. Once dried, you've "baked-in" the stain and it's permanent. Unless the color you were thinking of dyeing was red-clay, it's probably going to show through too.

2. I haven't put them in the dryer, if that's what you mean.

However, they have air-dried while all this was going on.

3. You might be able to save them still.
But I wouldn't have let them air-dry either. I'd have kept them damp, if not wet. Have you tried elbow-grease? I find that pre-treaters work better if I work them in...I have an old toothbrush for this purpose. It works some of the stain out even as it works the pre-treat in.

6. Scrubbing, as someone else suggested.
If not, I would suggest a black or navy blue dye.
