Somebody rolled one of my patients.
He's beat up pretty bad. Nasal & left maxillary fractures. Just about broke my heart when I came in to the exam room and saw him that way. This guy isn't a barroom brawler; he's a nice, sweet guy with a seizure disorder. Why would someone do that?

I'm in a mood to inflict a few nasal fractures myself...:grr::mad::grr:

I know there are probably few DU-ers who feel this way, but for the ones who do: homeless people are PEOPLE. For every slacker thinking to skate by with a "Please Help; God Bless" sign, there are scores and scores of people who have been hard done by life, in one way or another. Even their poor choices don't mean they deserve a rough life on the streets. Being homeless is dangerous. And awful.

I need a hug...

1. It's unbelievable, and yet not really.
I mean, I really can't understand why someone would attack someone in that position, but I know it happens. Sick.

2. Here's one for you AND him, Aristus...

Sometimes I wish I were Samantha Stevens to erase all the hurt in this world. And to put some heart into some creatures skating by in life inflicting so much pain in their fellow man.

4. PLEASE give it to him, Aristus.
He needs to know that others care.

5. He knows I care, that's for sure.
The front office people occasionally give me some feedback from the patients. I can't tell you how gratifying it is. I know I chose the right job...

6. That should be considered a hate crime. Homeless people get targetted too often.

7. Don't I know. One of my patients has been raped at least twice that I know of
since I started at the clinic. She's homeless AND mentally ill. When she doesn't take her meds, she's vulnerable to so many things...

8. Oh that makes me so mad. In Paris France they drive a big bus
around the downtown and pick up homeless people, feed them and take them to a shelter at night. We have a lot to learn.

9. Sorry, Aristus. Did it happen in your neck of the woods?
Seems to be happening more and more, especially in Belltown.

Here:  , and one for your client!

10. Downtown Tacoma. He didn't say exactly where.
Yeah, Belltown can be rough, too. I almost got into a fight myself outside The Croc a few months back after a concert.
