Do you say "butt naked" or "buck naked?"

1. Haha. I looked it up a while back because I always thought it was buck naked but saw

so many people using butt naked that I figured either tons of people didn't know what it was supposed to be or something had changed :-)

In any case it appears that the origin of buck naked has some negative connotations and that might be why so many say butt naked.

7. Where I grew up, people always used "buck naked". Where I live now,

I hear most people using "butt naked". Either way, everyone seems to know what you mean.

8. Just plain "nekkid" gets the idea across, but...

some reason we have to add modifiers, as if the word itself is unclear. (How is "batshit crazy" crazier than just plain "crazy"?)

I always assumed the "buck" thing referred to whomever our forbears thought of as savages-- those "young bucks" hunting deer or working the cotton fields. So, there is that nagging fear of savage sexuality that adds a steamy emphasis to "naked" when you add "buck" to it.

Just plain "naked" is funny when you think of guys wearing barrels or other comedy routines. Or, it's something Freudian when you dream of being caught naked. But "buck naked" adds the scary thought that that nekkid guy over there can screw my woman better than I can.
