What do you call the shortcuts for long words in MS Word?

I mean, for example, you can fix it so when you type "DU" it fills in "Democratic Underground?"

1. I have no idea. I didn't know there was such a function.
But it has been a couple of years since I used MS Word. My e-mail has a function called auto-fill. That could be what it is called on Word.

I don't think they have another name.

misread the question. I was thinking of the shortcut keys like CTRL + Z to undo your last action.

3. You could do a search and replace. Type in DUn everywhere you want Democratic Underground to appear.
They search "DUn" and replace it with Democratic Underground. Are you talking about macros? Never used them.

6. So now you have to type "D-U-Cntl-Z" every time you want to just type "DU"?
By the way, manipulating "autocorrect" is a great practical joke for April 1st. If you can get on a coworker's computer, make their Word program autocorrect the word "Dear" to "Hey Asshole!" and see how much trouble they get into whenever they write a business letter. Trust me, wackiness ensues.
