Anybody good with MS Word - how to merge documents? |
|
I have a fundraising letter in one file, and I have a 20 page list of local business addresses in another word document.
I know like 10 years ago, I was able to merge a mailing list with a similar type of document, but I've completely forgotten how to do it, and Word has moved beyond whatever version of Windows I was using in 2000 or 2001. (Plus, I'm sure the department administrative assistant helped me out before, too.)
Any tips?
Thanks

1. I used to be able to do that but stopped using MSWord in 1996. So you are ahead of me. |

10. Not with free pdf programs, if you have a registered (paid for) version |

of Acrobat or Nitro, you can.
If you trust me (I'm very trustworthy!) you can send it to me and I can merge it for you.

3. I used to know how to do mail merges, but I forget |
|
Could hurt me in the job market for AA jobs too. Been out of work for so long, I don't remember much of the software I used to know. Sorry I can't help.

The word 2000 will probably be what you are looking for. I hope you get this taken care of or if not that someone with a better memory comes along. :hi:

I'll take a stab at it later today, but my problem is that I don't have at ton of time to sit down & dedicate to this one task.

As an amateur software developer, I've learned that someone on the net has probably had the same problem that you have.

11. The way I remember it . . . . vaguely . . . |
|
is you have to type "switch" codes in between all the addresses. I found it tedious and would just paste the address into the letter over and over and over again, after copying the letter. Or maybe they are called "merge" codes . . . . . I learned to do that on a mag card, which is probably from way before most of you here on this page were born, gee I feel old and obsolete.
I found later that creating a merge list is more time-consuming than just dealing with each address once and pasting it -- or typing it -- into the letter.
I do not like the new version of WORD, either, nothing is on the menu where it should be. I now use Open Office at home and of course I don't have to learn how to merge ...
I'm pretty good at parralel parking, though, if you ever need a hand with that.
