Poll question: Which would you try first: Hootie and the Blowfish or a dive bar? |

1. My daughter, through an internship she was doing, got me free Hootie tickets last year |

The show was surprisingly a lot of fun. They performed in a Texas honky tonk of all places. But if you really listen to their stuff, a lot of it comes dangerously close to country music.
That being said, I've had some fun in dive bars too, so it would be a toss up for me.

2. Lasted about 15 minutes when I saw Hootie at a dive bar in 1994 |

I was mostly there for the opening act.

4. All the musicians in my band had a special place in our hearts for dive bars. |

. . . Our dream -- never ever realized... but really really CLOSE sometimes -- was to play a bar SO dive-y that we'd need chicken wire across the front of it for our protection (a la Blues Brothers). . . We had 8 people in the band -- and the beginning of the first set in most dives was played to no more than several people in the audience (though there might be hundreds shoulder-to-shoulder later on). My favorite line at that point was "We just LOVE playing to a crowd this small... because if you get ugly, we can kick your ass." . . .
