Today, Kelly RIPA's t.m.i. moment
Now really, she is somebody I like more than just about anybody in the celebrity world, so quick, so self-deprecating yet seemingly sure of herself... (I could go on). And I don't delude myself out of thinking that she probably has steel in her, possibly some not attractive steel, you can't compete that much successfully without some unattractive steel.

Today, I don't know whether it was going to her head about being the top dog after Regis leaves and her having a guest co-host with her on top today.

She sort of free associated that she has rages over a couple of things, and she said that her mother, back in the day, "didn't send me for therapy for it, but just PUNISHED me." This didn't sound, um, tactful. Or kind.

But rage #1 was: Chewing/smacking noises while eating. Actually, I share this peeve, but she convincingly described her reaction as RAGE, like when her spouse is "eating a juicy peach" and something her kids eat.

Then, like going on too much, she said she had RAGES against her sister as kids, sharing a room, when the sister had to "rub her legs together like a preying mantis before going to sleep."

I don't know. Today instead of making her real, it was sort of creepy.

1. Wow. I would have never guessed.
It sounds like she's got some anger management issues.

2. She hasn't been real since she started auditioning.
Very "entitled" young lady is our Miss Kelly.

She's basically always been an only moderately talented shark.

5. Did I mention that I really really like her?
That's what made the unkindness of her remark about her mother and the "rage" stick out the more for me. As for the "entitled" part, I don't see her that way. She has always described a very working class and loving family background. Both she and Regis sound removed from us Unwashed when they go on about the celebrity events they attended the night and weekend before, but that's the life they live now.

I would mostly use the word "entitled" for the BUSHes and now for Caroline KENNEDY when she totally expected and demanded that the senator spot be gifted to her and now how she traded her mother's tapes to ABC in exchange for keeping the miniseries off the networks --- all done in the crudest and tactless ways.

3. What is "unattractive steel," exactly?
I've never heard that expression.

4. You are such a taskmaster. I was struggling to describe what must be

some toughness needed in the hard scrabble of career competition, a toughness that even those like her who have an image of sweetness and pleasantness must have to survive in that business of cruelty and rejection. Think "LENO" hiding in a closet of the room where executives are deciding his career fate and his slashing Conan out of his way.

Not every language device has to be in terms of an idiom (universally recognized, commonly accepted, often cliched), does it?!1 As Quitter PALIN and SHAKESPEARE knew, we sometimes create new words and expressions?!1 :7

9. You misunderstand--I don't object to the term at all.
I simply didn't quite understand it, and I wondered if it might be an idiom of which I was unaware.

6. Kelly has always been "tough as nails" and knows how to take advantage
of a situation. She is "quick on her feet" but, I wonder how well the show will do without Regis. . .

7. Me, too. When he's not there, she seems to lose her bearing a bit,
like her mind is racing to pick one of many options of what to say/do and whether it goes too far.

And last week there seemed to be a little friction between Regis and her, or maybe just playing. He mentioned something unusual he had done as a bit and she said she had done that in a more extreme way and he said, "You've always got to TOP me, don't you."

Then another day he said something like, "I picked you," and she immediately and unsmilingly/eyes cast down said, "No, you didn't. (Art and a committee) did it."

Which way will they go--- a junior dude to her seniority or a Regis/mature dude so that she can continue her playfulness? Or ------------ OR --------- a woman? During the late summer re-runs of The View I started watching Kathy Lee and Hoda and they really have catchiness going. The clips and SNL skits used to show Kathy Lee being nasty to Hoda but they seem to have hit their stride. What irks me about Kathy Lee (one of several things) is how she supposedly wanted to ditch the Regis show because she was tired of interviewing other people who were accomplishing projects and wanted to be the interviewee about her accomplishing projects, yet here she is doing another version of the Regis show.

8. I thought Kathie Lee left because of the Wal-Mart debacle and also, Frank's adultery

she felt persecuted by the press and had other projects on which she wanted to focus her time. The children's books, the play, her singing . . .
