Has anybody read Brandon Sanderson (the guy finishing Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time")? |
|
I was at one of the last remaining Borders' the other day and stumbled on a massive audiobook for "Way of Kings" by Sanderson. ($75 marked down to $7.50) Looked interesting, and at 38 CDs, it's friggin' huge. I think Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix was 28 CDs?
I do too much driving, so audiobooks are a good way to pass the time on the drive. So, having 38 CDs for $7.50 is pretty tempting.
Unfortunately, it looks like it is the first book of a planned 10.
Anybody read his work? Any good?
Thanks

1. Let's see -- if he's finishing "Wheel of Time," his style is probably ponderous, repetetive, |
|
entirely lacking in plot, two-dimensional and rambling.

2. maybe they chose him for the opposite reason? |
|
in order to finish the ponderous & repetitive story, they picked somebody who could close it out quickly & succinctly?

The "Way of Kings" book is 1,000 pages long and is scheduled to be 10 books long...

6. The wheel weaves as the wheel wills. Sanderson is but a thread in the pattern. |

7. I have read his two Wheel of Time books and his Mistborn series. |
|
He has done a fairly good job of moving the WoT series toward the conclusion (1 more book to go and the series is complete). His original series Mistborn was quite enjoyable, but his main character in that had a bit of "Mary Sue" syndrome which kept the book from being what I would call "brilliant".
I haven't read Way of Kings yet, but it seems to be getting better reviews than the Mistborn series.

the audiobook was a bargain, but if it's tough for me waiting for a 7 book series to finish (George RR Martin's Song of Ice & Fire), it will be even tougher for me with a 10 book series.
