Poll question: Why 3 people have responded to my last 25 OPs: |
|
I mean this with the utmost humor. I know there are lots of conversations going on here, lots of people, and posts sink for all kinds of reasons. But I also know that many of us get that think-i'll-go-eat-worms feeling from time to time. Just thought I'd have fun with it.
So, why oh why have my last 25 posts gone virtually ignored?

2. Because getting high thread-count is all about pandering to the Lounge. |
|
Ask their opinions. I constantly ask opinions, but what I'm really doing is gloating that my life is awesome. Or be the funniest motherfucker in the room...I dunno, I have no sense of humor but it seems to work for Boojatta and MFM. Or become the resident expert on something. I think there is an opening for an expert on deer. I had a deer question earlier and despite Google I still don't have an answer.
"Do deer shelter...or do they sleep in the open while standing, like cows?" Believe it or not, I cannot find an answer for something I know I cannot be the first person to ask.

8. Deer most certainly lay down to sleep |
|
I don't think I've ever seen a standing sleeping deer.
As for shelter, I think they like to lay down near trees or boulders, which I suppose is considered sheltering.
Why, what did you think? That they stand sleeping in open fields? Really? If they did, hunters would probably have a much easier time hunting them.

16. I had no clue...but that was exactly why I asked. |
|
I have a bunch of deer that live behind me in Sligo Creek Park (Sligo Creek is what Rock Creek turns into at the MD border) which is only about 2 blocks wide & around 8mi. long. I thought...I've never seen a deer den, I don't think they have home-shelters. I wonder where they sleep...they can't sleep standing like cows, they'd have gone extinct millennia ago. These deer are weird anyhow...most deer are nocturnal, these ones forage in the daylight and are never seen past 5 or 6PM. Also, they all appear to be female.
I'm wondering if they're being "seeded" into the park by Montgomery County to have wildlife, there doesn't seem to be enough terrain for large forest-grazing mammals and the surrounding area is urban...Downtown Silver Spring, Wheaton, 4-Corners, Forest Glen...inside the beltway even.

9. They shelter - deer will bed down in areas where they feel safe, often during the day |
|
You can see their beds as small oval depressions where the forest-floor litter has been matted down a bit...

I once made the mistake of asking if there were cliques on DU and found out the hard way that you don't ask that here. DU is alot like high school.

Actually, this is a good time of year for eating worms. They crawl out onto the sidewalk and give up the ghost in early fall.
