1. Happy 60th Birthday!
Good times, eh? I remember listening to CKLW on summer nights with the wattage was strong enough.

3. The Big 8, CKLW. In the mo-tor citeeeee. . .
http://rockradioscrapbook.ca/bigeight.html

In 1973, I backpacked through Europe and visited relatives for the first and only time in a small village in Sweden. The teen boy - a second cousin - didn't speak English (then), but shared his album collection. And there it was: "CKLW Solid Gold." Sweet.

9. Beautiful Faygo-regarding your pic of JFK doing what he loved most
Did you catch any of the stories about Jackie Kennedy's audio tapes. Fascinating stuff, but there was one part that broke my heart-when Schlesinger asked little John Jr. if he knew what happened to his father- John said "He went to Heaven." Then he asked John if he remembered his father and and first John says "Yeah." Schlesinger says "What do you remember about him and John says "Umm...I don't remember anything." Isn't that sad?

2. Happy Birthday!
I'm of the same vintage, and almost all of those oldies are stuck in the vestiges of my brain ;)

I like the grocery store that I go to because the owners are our age and have some good old music playing.

8. Yeah, but I see #31 making a run, and #2 staying up there for a long time.
Not that they are favorites. I'm just clairvoyant.

6. Happy 60th! Let me say one thing - ALEX CHILTON!!!!
Did you know Alex Chilton died because of lack of health insurance?

Living in NOLA, he was mowing the lawn when he felt chest pains. Not having insurance, he ignored them. The next day, he died.

12. Happy Birthday to you!
My partner is going to be 60 in five days. I wonder what he was listening to on the radio? Of this list, my choice for favorite is "Dandelion."

"The Ballad Of You And Me And Pooneil" from the epic "After Bathing At Baxter's". Good times.

16. In a world before consultants...
Faygo Kid, that Keener playlist is rich with "regional" acts--which you'd expect out of a place as musically fertile as Detroit! F'rinstance:

Seger's "Heavy Music" at Number 4. We wouldn't hear about him down here (KAAY 1090 in Little Rock) until 1968's "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man."

Al Kent at Number 8, The Precisions at Number 9 and The Fantastic Four at Number 15. Unknown here to this day.

The Cryan Shames at Number 23. We didn't get that one, but "Sugar And Spice" was all over the place.

The playlist you posted is obviously from a time before consultants were able to brainwash station owners into believing that regional music differences did not exist. I'd be interested to know if Keener played artists like The Gentrys, The Uniques, The Gants, The Hombres, Mouse And The Trapps, Roy Head and the pre-"Western Union" Five Americans. We heard 'em all on KAAY.

Hope your Big 6-0 was a Groove!

:hi:
