Once Upon A Time In Australia: Daddy Cool

They sprang upon an unsuspecting (but willing) continent in 1971, looking like escapees from the Bob Clampett-era Looney Tunes. They sounded like some nearly-brilliant late Fifties bar band amped up to 1970s volume, and you'd swear lead singer Ross Wilson had a slight speech impediment.

Their premiere single, "Eagle Rock," stayed at Number One for ten weeks and their debut album, "Daddy Who? Daddy Cool!" sold an unprecedented sixty thousand copies in a month, which was six times Gold in Australia back then. It would later become the first Australian LP to sell a hundred thousand units.

Aussies went buck wild for Daddy Cool, but they never caught on here. Pity, that. This post was motivated by the recent uploading to YouTube of the extremely rare Daddy Cool single, "Teenage Blues." Links are presented below for your dancing and romancing pleasure.
