Split peas. The package says no need to soak.
Do you soak your peas before making soup?

3. No. The volume of split peas compared to their surface area is so small...
.
.
.
... as to not require soaking.
.
.
.
Now... I DO simmer the soup for a while -- I wouldn't toss 'em into a briskly boiling soup
and serve it up 5 minutes later.

4. I don't even soak beans
Peas take about 2 hours total to cook at a simmer. chop an onion and a carrot, maybe a clove of garlic and don;'t forget a lttle bacon or ham!:9

5. Nope.
I'll soak beans, but sometimes, I don't even bother with that. I never soak split peas or lentils.

8. No, I leave split peas for others
My opinion, which may or may not mesh with yours so please don't write to complain, is split peas are the only food item in the world which bacon cannot improve. They are, in my opinion, fucking nasty and I won't eat them.

So...whether I would soak or not soak them is irrelevant, because I won't eat them.

9. Split Pea is my husband's favorite soup
And I never soak them first, they cook up just fine without it.
