flight and says "all these people just walked in dressed like Hoss Cartwright". I hear someone in the background say "there's a Bonanza convention here". She says "never mind, see you soon".

4. While living in Germany, I used to watch "Bonanza" on German TV. |
|
. . . The actor they used to dub Hoss' voice into German had this high scritchy-scratchy voice that was absolutely inappropriate... considering the size of the character. . It was HILARIOUS!!! . . . For a long LONG time, "Bonanza" was the most popular TV show in the world... to be eventually toppled from that perch, I'm very sorry to say, by "Baywatch". . . .

6. Not too far from Merrell Barracks (an old SS Kaserne) where I was stationed in Nurnberg... |
|
. . . was a municipal park built around the Deutzendeich Lake -- with a municipal stadium where Hitler and the National Socialist party held many famously filmed rallies from 1933-1938. . While walking in a remote section of the park one day, I happened to find "The German-American Cowboy & Indian Club" -- a broken-down old "corral" where there were about half-a-dozen men standing around dressed like cowboys... doing "cowboy things". I was ALMOST 100% certain that they were all Germans. . . It was really weird. . . . It was the same day that an elderly German woman told the little dog she was walking that I was shit (scheisse). It was not a good day for me -- as I was more than a little homesick. . I realized much later that she may have lost children in WWII due to the Americans -- my buddy had to sneak around with his German girlfriend as her grandmother (who she lived with) would have disowned her for having such a relationship -- Grandma had lost three very young civilian sons to American bombings during that war. . It put her behavior into a perspective for me that was much easier to deal with and understand. . . .

7. That scene at the "corral" sounds kinda bizarre, like something Werner Herzog |
|
would put in a film. I googled "German Cowboy and Indian Clubs" and found a photo of the corral, I think- but no one is there at that moment. http://jonathandwoodyard.tumblr.com/post/3120784393/historical-cowboy-indian-club-nurembergI enjoy the little narrative pictures from your time in Germany.

. . . The entrance says 1971 -- I wonder if that's when the club was formed (I would've seen it around '73 or '74) and if THOSE structures came along later. The corral I remember seeing was pretty sad. . . . EXCELLENT find!!! Thanks. . . .

11. If Werner Herzog directed Bonaza, he would put Hoss on top of a camel |
|
And little Joe, who would really be little, would be laughing his head off at the ensuing antics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_uFDSQ_Ius
