Which is unfortunate as objectively-speaking he's arguably one of the most talented filmmakers of all time. It seems often that great artistic talent goes hand-in-hand with being a monster in one's personal life.

In either terms of scumminess or talent. And Woody Allen is no slouch, but he never made a movie half as good as "Repulsion."
I learned long ago that I'd be a lot poorer for rejecting artwork on the grounds that the artist was a total asshole. In 40 years, Polanski will be dead, and no one will care about his sad little drama, but we'll still have "Chinatown." (and unfortunately "Pirates".)
