Fred Durst, you're a moron |
|
Edited on Mon Apr-05-04 02:43 PM by Cush
There was some Nirvana special on MTV2 and Fred Durst was talking about how we wants to have some kind effect/emotional impact on the world like Nirvana.
Fred, Fred, Fred, you will never have the impact of Nirvana/Cobain. No one will ever mistake "Nookie" and "My Way Or The HighWay" for actual music.
Isn't your 15 minutes of fame up?

5. He could jump in front of a freight train |

But that would start a week of national celebrations and dancing in the street.

He was the first person to say anything anti-war at the Academy awards last year the same night Micheal Moore won for "Bowling for Columbine"...
I like some of their tunes too ..

7. Uh...is this a serious post? |

Fred Durst was never at the Academy Awards. I think he was barely at the Grammies. I remember the speech you are talking about, but I think it was at some second tier awards show. And he mangled the english language in the process.

8. he used the word "agreeance" |
|
which some RWers said was not correct English, even though everyone knew what he was saying. No matter. Turns out RWers were sorely disappointed when they discovered "agreeance" is an historically accurate way of saying "agreement."
Here is the Oxford English Dictionary's entry for the word, which includes literary examples of its use: agreeance The act of agreeing; = AGREEMENT in several of its meanings. 1536 BELLENDENE Cron. Scotl. (1821) II. 333 King Johne..to eschew the present dangeir, maid aggreance with his prelatis. 1549 COVERDALE Erasm. Paraphr. Hebr. iii. 6 If we dooe styll abyde in the concorde and agreaunce of the house. 1559 in Strype Ann. I. I. App. xvi, The diversity of our fasting setteth forth the more the agreeance of our faith. 1599 JAS. I Basil. Dor. (1682) To Reader, What aggreance and conformitie he ought to keep betwixt his outward behaviour..and the vertuous qualities of his minde. 1714 MILBOURNE Traitor's Reward 19 In agreeance with God's laws.

9. Are you seriously saying..... |
|
..that Fred Durst exhibited a familiarity with the Oxford English usage of a word?
Besides, his anti-war stance was fleeting and he was spouting off a few weeks later about supporting our boys over the kicking some ass.
The dude is a flat out neanderthal and a misogynist. Just because he had a fleeting moment of rennaisance english clarity doesn't make him Noam Chomsky.
Sorry. Nothing personal. But nothing raises my ire faster and with more boiling blood than talking about this obnoxious meat head.

11. Nope, he's no Chomsky |
|
and so what? He's an entertainer, and not a particularly good one. But you made fun of him for his use of the English language--as pompous right wingers had done previously--but it's not really the best way to attack him, especially because he used the word correctly. Attack him for his music, his persona, his pretentiousness, his bad music, etc. But not for misusing the language.
